The successful applicant will work as part of a group that investigates the mechanisms of blood pressure regulation. Research in the lab focuses on the events involved in the initiation and progression of salt-sensitive hypertension. Various rodent and in vitro models are required for our studies. The researcher will work with the PI to perform chronic rat studies and use molecular biology techniques and cell-culture to assess kidney function. This position is for a Researcher 2 with the salary depending upon the individual’s qualifications and experience. This will be a 1-year position with the potential to continue.
Specific Duties Include:
65% - Independently conduct and assist with experiments, including but not limited to: • Chronic rat studies to characterize cardiovascular and renal function • Molecular biology- qPCR, Western Blots, histology, ELISAs • Cell-culture
25% Lab Administration: • Tracking, ordering, and organizing lab supplies • Maintaining lab records/inventories • Management of lab protocols
10% General Administration • Maintain detailed lab notebook • Analyze and present data to the PI • Review literature relevant to the studies ongoing in the lab
All required qualifications must be documented on application materials.
Required Qualifications: • BA/BS in biology or a related field and 1 years of experience working in a biological lab OR combination of education and work experience in a biological lab equal to 5 years • Demonstrated experience in molecular biology, cell biology, physiology, or a related field • Willingness to work with rodent models • Experience with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint or similar programs for data analysis and presentation creation • Must be able to work flexible hours as needed by the project-occasional weekend work required • Must be able to stand at a laboratory bench for extended periods of time and lift up to 40lbs • Strong communication and problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently • Ability to follow oral directions and written protocols precisely • Experience with experimental recordkeeping, including reporting experimental data, both raw and analyzed, and maintaining lab inventories
Preferred Qualifications • Prior experience with animal studies using rats/mice • Experience with conducting research according to scientific protocols including reporting errors, summarizing data and statistical analysis for reporting • Experience using the following standard lab equipment is preferred: microscopes, centrifuges, manual pipets, electronic pipets, digital balances, autoclave, fume hood, etc.
