The Gooden School, Sierra Madre, California Middle School Mathematics Teacher 2020-21 School Year
The Gooden School is an independent Episcopal K-8 school set in the foothills of Sierra Madre. We seek a dynamic, committed, creative teacher to be a member of the Middle School (grades 6-8) math team. The Gooden School has a well-established program designed to prepare all students for honors-level placement in high school coursework, with top students generally being placed in honors geometry or Algebra II as freshmen. The candidate will be skilled in developing students’ critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and will employ a variety of instructional strategies to ensure that all students are challenged to attain mastery of complex concepts. The candidate must be able to integrate technology in a one-to-one classroom environment. Experience teaching honors-level algebra I and geometry is required. Experience with STEAM curriculum is also preferred.
Responsibilities also include communicating student progress to parents (including parent conferences and completing end-of-trimester report cards), and being available to meet with students outside of class time for additional support. In addition, this person will serve as an advisor to 10-12 students, sponsor a math club, and serve on the math curriculum committee.
A master’s degree and/or certification and a minimum of three years of Middle or Upper School teaching experience, preferably with gifted students, is required. Independent school experience is desirable.
During the 2020-21 school year, The Gooden School may be offering in-person and/or distance learning, online instruction. Candidates should be prepared to offer an engaging curriculum in-person and through Zoom and Google Classroom.
