Post-doctoral Researcher

The position is for a post-doctoral researcher to work on projects under the direction of Kerri Winters-Stone. Dr. Winters-Stones laboratory is focused on improving the health and well-being of cancer survivors, with a particularly emphasis on exercise rehabilitation. The lab uses both observational and interventional approaches to identify cancer treatment related toxicities, with a focus on musculoskeletal health, that drives development and testing of prescriptive exercise programs to improve long term outcomes, such as fall avoidance and survival. We are a busy, high-energy, fast-paced team that is doing research to improve peoples lives and change health care, thus, we seek a candidate with similar passions, drive and work ethic.

This postdoctoral researcher will assist the PI with a new NIH supplement to pilot delivery of remote exercise training to cancer survivors living in geographically underserved counties in Oregon. The researcher will assume oversight of the ancillary pilot project including project management, oversight of training staff and data collection, participant recruitment and data analysis. S/he might also assist with pending projects that focus on cancer and aging. In addition, the researcher will work directly with the PI to assist with data cleaning and analysis and write manuscripts and final reports and create scientific presentations. The person may also be asked to assist with miscellaneous activities related to closing projects, as needed. We are looking for an individual with substantial clinical research experience, academic training in exercise oncology, and demonstrated ability to produce scientific papers and presentations. This is an excellent opportunity to gain research experience and build a CV for a competitive academic position. PI will provide mentorship in development of independent grant submissions.

PhD in exercise science or related field

1 to 3 years of relevant clinical research experience
Prior experience in human research studies (including recruitment), data management and analysis, and writing IRB applications, and using MS Word, Excel, SPSS, Endnote.

Ability to work with PI and lab manager and other project directors to independently carry out research and related work

Ability to communicate clearly, demonstrate a high level of professionalism and interact well with collaborators, participants, medical staff

Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English language.

NOTE: Post-doctoral scholars must have less than 5 years cumulative post-doc experience to qualify for a post-doc position at OHSU.

3+ years research experience + project management experience. Demonstrated academic writing and presentation experience

Experience overseeing behavioral interventions (e.g,. exercise or nutrition) and/or working with clinical populations and/or cancer survivors, writing grant progress reports and grant proposals is highly desired.

Skill related to assessment of human performance and functioning

DXA operator license preferred

The person hired for this position can work completely remotely as long as s/he has the capacity to do so. However, work must be performed within the U.S.
