Stonehill College invites applicants for the founding Program Director of Engineering to begin July 2021. This person will join an interdisciplinary group of faculty members dedicated to building out the college’s engineering curriculum. Stonehill has created programs in computer and electrical engineering to begin in the Fall of 2021. It is looking for a Program Director to assist in the completion of an Engineering Science program (BS and BA) and the implementation of an Optical Engineering Program (BS). Furthermore, the program director will coordinate the college’s application for ABET-accreditation. The program director will liaison with faculty, departments, finance and facilities to lay out a plan for obtaining the faculty hires and physical space needs required by the engineering program. The program director will also form a faculty steering committee to ensure the cooperative involvement of Physics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Chemistry, Environmental Science and other programs that might emerge as cognate fields in an Engineering Science degree. Finally, the Program Director will assist with the creation of an external Advisory Group, will plan outreach to service and professional organizations in the field, and will develop plans for healthy retention and graduation rates for women and students of color in the program. Current plans for an engineering program will begin with the addition of the courses Intro. to Engineering Systems, Intro. to Electrical Engineering, Signals and Systems, Senior Design Projects, Electronics II (digital electronics) to the existing curriculum. The director or other new engineering faculty would need to teach from among these courses, possibly along with existing physics and computer science courses.
