The Research Manager is responsible for overseeing the management of the Centers research portfolio and supervision of the research coordinator. This tandem will manage and coordinate the work of all researchers and research teams who conduct reviews of the scientific literature, government policies, and data analyses on a broad range of healthcare topics. The Research Manager is also responsible for overseeing the schedules of the editorial and graphic design team at the Center. The Research Manager will lead the development of planning, staffing, timeline development and adherence, researcher schedules, resource balancing/sequencing, and efficient workflow across all research programs and products at the Center.
The Research Manager is responsible for fostering a culture of trust and teamwork among the research staff, ensuring proactive and positive communication, and through example upholding the mission, vision, and values of the Center. They will also be responsible for maintaining a positive and efficient working environment, including constructive conflict resolution among research staff.
Masters Degree (MA, MS, MBA, or MPH)
At least 10 years of combined management and research experience
Expertise in project-management principles and tools; ability to successfully identify, evaluate, design, and implement effective management systems
Significant experience managing complex research projects with multiple and diverse stakeholders and partners
Experience developing budgets for research projects and FTE requirement estimates
Experience managing the creation of peer-reviewed publications, or similar research products
Understanding of statistics, data analysis, and data protocols in health research
Experience with statistical software programs (e.g., SAS, R) and standard productivity software (e.g. MS Word, MS Excel, MS PPT, EndNote)
Experience completing and submitting materials to IRBs and executing DUAs and BAAs
Experience working with human resources
Experience developing and implementing staff onboarding activities
Excellent facilitation, interpersonal, and written skills
Experience in providing constructive criticism, addressing disagreement, and fostering productive teamwork
Experience responding to RFPs and other proposals and applications
Ability to be punctual, responsive, detail-oriented, and proactive
Ability to thrive in a matrixed environment and balance both functional and formal supervision
Terminal degree (PhD, MD, JD, or PharmD)
15 years of combined management and research experience
Formal management training or equivalent
Experience in the conduct of evidence synthesis
Experience with systematic review software
Experience with data server management
Direct experience in state-level policy development or policy administration
Training in epidemiology or biostatistics
Familiarity with state-level Medicaid administration
Record of success in generating peer-reviewed publications, or similar research products
