Position Number: 05104 School/College: Academic Joint Departments Job Description: The Department of Pathology, at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is inviting applications from qualified candidates at the Assistant Professor level for a full-time, open tenure or non-tenure earning position through the Department of Pathology, School of Medicine. This position will work across campus for collaborative research and clinical work requiring molecular pathology expertise. Responsibilities include the development, validation, and implementation of molecular diagnostic clinical tests and expansion of test menu in the UAB Hospital's CLIA-certified clinical molecular diagnostics lab. Research and publications in related areas are required. Department: Pathology Assignment Category: Full-Time Tenure Status: Open Tenure Required Qualifications: The candidate must have an M.D. or Ph.D. in biology, chemistry, biochemistry, genetics, or related fields with appropriate postdoctoral fellowship training. A background in the following is required: technical experience in a CLIA certified, CAP accredited high-complexity clinical lab utilizing molecular techniques; an understanding and ability to design and construct NGS libraries; ability to analyze NGS data using analysis pipelines; technical ability and proper credentials to perform clinical testing when required or needed. Preferred Qualifications: Previous experience in the following will be given strong consideration: project management including designing and validating NGS clinical tests, developing lab budgets, preparing clinical reports for review by the medical director, accounting, inventory management, database management, and customer service; strong computer skills including database construction (for example, Access, REDCap, SQL, ORACLE); and advanced understanding of CPT codes and billing strategies.
