About the Job: This position is a joint appointment (50/50) under the direct supervision of Drs. Thyagarajan and Mroz. All laboratory work will be performed primarily in Dr. Thygarajan’s laboratory. Dr. Thyagarajan’s research is focused on developing novel blood-based biomarkers for healthy aging and a variety of chronic diseases such as cardiovascular and lung diseases. His laboratory is primarily focused on assessing and implementing novel molecular and cellular biomarker measurements in large population studies. The applicant will be involved in development and implementation of a variety of high throughput assays such as ELISA, genotyping/sequencing assays, immunophenotyping using multiparameter flow cytometry, ultra sensitive protein quantification assays and culture of primary cells. Dr. Mroz’s research focus is in the area of pharmacogenomics and developing biomarkers for minimal residual disease detection in hematological malignancies. The applicant will be involved in developing and implementing novel sequencing assays including next generation sequencing and long read sequencing assays, droplet digital PCR assays and other high throughput genotyping assays. Job responsibilities include • Running High throughput assays and performing QC- 80% o Independently analyze samples on multiple platforms such as ELISA, multiplex assays, flow cytometry, ddPCR, high throughput genotyping platforms such as Biomark etc. o Set up, operate, calibrate and maintain equipment for data collection. o Develop and implement quality control procedures. o Perform studies according to established protocols (i.e. sample preparation for analysis, perform cell culture, PCR set up, record keeping). o Maintain accurate reports, collect and organize datasets. o Establish and maintain a working knowledge of the principles behind daily work. o Collaborate with researchers at other laboratories on collaborative projects.
• Laboratory support and data analysis- 20% o Review literature relating to research projects o Develops skills that are cross functional and uses time efficiently including helping other areas of the lab. o Track QC data and analyze datasets o Initiate and revise lab SOPs as needed o Participate in lab meetings o Facilitate open and professional communication related to studies and ongoing experiments among a diverse team.
