Responsibilities The Patient Flow Technical Program Manager will lead and/or manage a variety of functions including strategic planning, governance, program and project management, process improvement, and special projects or initiatives that impact the entire organization. This position leads project framework processes and methodologies involving departmental or cross-functional teams. Plans, coordinates and monitors scope, requirements, schedules, budgets, resources, tasks, risks, staff, and deliverables. Monitors projects from initiation through completion. Organizes and leads activities relating to the management and completion of projects. The position works with department administrators, leaders and staff in Finance, Managed Care, Clinical Operations, Patient Care Services, Perioperative Services, Ancillary Departments, HIM, and cross functional teams, and subject matter experts throughout the health system delivery process.
This role's primary area of focus is the patient flow program. The Patient Flow program encompasses the entirety of the patient's time spent in hospital from ED admit, direct admit, bed planning, bed request, bed assignment, patient location tracking, nursing handoff, patient transport, patient discharge, environmental services, and discharge and readmit flow and readmit reductions. It also managing improvements, new build and support for flow thresholds, and real time data reporting within the hospital leadership daily huddle. Each of these areas has a senior operations leader partner. This resource is accountable for meeting with each of these leaders in order to ensure flow improvements are made and remain persistent. This broad a program must be supported by a resource with specific expertise in Patient Flow.
This role requires an expert resource with a command across Epic systems. This resource must have the ability to understand and work across multiple Epic Application teams including ASAP (emergency department), Prelude (registration), Grand Central (patient movement), Case Management, Transfer Center, Orders, ClinDoc, Willow (pharmacy), Beaker (lab), OpTime (surgery), and Radiant (radiology).
Bachelor's degree in health care information technology, computer science, or related area, and/or equivalent combination of experience/training.
Strong knowledge of the Epic application including planning, design, development, testing, system integration, programing, data integrity and security, and user support and training.
Strong knowledge of healthcare information technology, Epic workflow and processes and medical terminology. Comprehensive understanding of Epic applications and integration with clinical processes and workflows.
Advanced knowledge of business and process analysis functions.
Ability to apply business process and analysis concepts, up to and including the most complex and advanced.
Excellent communication and presentation skills, including the ability to explain technology solutions in business terms, establish rapport and persuade others. Fosters relationships and effectively collaborates with all levels of a diverse body of leaders, physicians, researchers, administrators, and staff employees.
Proven leadership ability. Ability to lead, direct, mentor, train, and motivate other project leaders and/or cross-functional project teams by fostering team spirit, an attitude of cooperation, and a commitment to the organization.
Self-motivated and focused on the goals and deliverables of the organization and the division and is always working to deliver and support these goals.
Sophisticated problem-solving skills to effectively define and address daily challenges and deliver assignments in a high pressure constantly changing executive level environment.

Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively train users and to successfully manage extensive cross-functional interactions between the Epic applications team, users, related personnel, and outside vendors. Ability to convey complex information in a clear, concise, and specific manner, and to cultivate a strong commitment to quality and achievement of goals.
Highly organized and focused on critical deadlines; ability to review and prioritize workload and adjust as needed.
Demonstrated experience developing and formulating strategies, administering policies, processes and resources.
Demonstrated experience leading strategic planning and governance initiatives.
Epic certification or experience in Grand Central (patient movement), Prelude (registration), Orders, and other applications relevant to this role.
Master's degree in health care information technology, computer science, or related area, and/or equivalent combination of experience.
Successfully complete training or certifications as required by hiring manager. Some travel may be required for training or certification.
Travel in the Northern California region may be required. Reliable transportation necessary for off-site visits. Mileage and travel expenses will be reimbursed per UC Policy. Occasional out of state travel may be required to attend training.
