The Nursing/ ICL Department at SUNY Downstate is seeking a full time Clinical Nurse Specialist. The successful candidate will: - Serve as a clinical expert, resource person and consultant for the assessment, prevention, treatment, management and documentation of altered skin integrity, pressure related injuries and wounds. - Provides clinical guidance to the nursing staff for risk associated factors for urinary and/fecal incontinence and determine individualized appropriate treatment plans. - Contribute to the coordination of care delivery with strong emphasis on prevention strategies and continuity of best practice care. - Participates in the development and implementation of protocols to identify ways to prevent etiologic risk factors for skin breakdown. - Provides evidence-based education to patients, caregivers, nursing staff for proper skin care, prevention of skin injuries and the management of pressure injuries. Delivers educational programs in accordance with requirements for best practices, patient safety, patient satisfaction, regularity and departmental standards. - Demonstrates and fosters collaborative relationships with the interdisciplinary clincal teams to support best practices and to achieve excellent patient outcomes. - Ideal candidate will serve as the clinical expert leader for pressure injury projects/ committees, clinical pressure injury rounds, policies and guidelines, weekly tracking reports, pressure injury NDNQI prevalence survey collection and validation. - Provides mentorship opportunities for our designated Wound Trained Associates. (DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE ABOVE POSITION DESCRIPTION) QUALIFICATIONS: REQUIRED: - Current New York State Registered Professional Nurse, Current Basic Life Support. - 3 to 5 years of recent relevant nursing experience. - Current certification in Wound, Ostomy and Continence (WOCN) or certification completion as a Wound Trained Associates with satisfactory completion of WOCN within 6 months after assuming the position. PREFERRED: - Master's Degree in Nursing.
