Our Tech Writing / Instruction Design groups assists in tying together many vital but disparate parts of this technology company's ecosystems. Data center technical writers and Instructional Designers perform tasks such as managing documentation projects and writing / editing procedures, technical guides, policies, engineering documents, and extensive training modules, etc.
Instructional Design & Training Content Development Responsibilities:
As a technical writer with a focus on Instructional Design, the ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, implementing, and evaluating very technical instructional / training content in support of our client's objectives and initiatives. This position will be required to partner with subject matter experts and key stakeholders to develop content that reflects sound instructional design based on adult learning principles and best practices. This individual will work closely with project engineers, construction and facilities project manager, and other technical writers.
Success in this role requires the blend of critical thinking and creative skills, along with a natural curiosity and willingness to share a different perspective. This is someone who is passionate about developing very technical instructional content and must have prior experience in doing so.
This position is a remote individual contributor role expected to last for at least 12 months with a high likelihood for renewal.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Engage with internal stakeholders and SMEs to clarify technical learning objectives, identify performance gaps and build simple, customer-centric, actionable content and enablement for the client.
Actively communicate with stakeholders and ensure learning solutions have demonstrable impact.
Produce online courses using various tools, which may or may not include: Articulate 360, primarily Storyline leveraging pre-developed templates as well as innovating new engagements and interactions.
Project management for all assigned initiatives including project scope and timeline, meeting all deadlines within quality expectations.
Collaborate with client stakeholders to develop and review the enablement and training content and proactively identify additional expert resources who can address content gaps.
Develop knowledge assessments, certification exams, and programs to measure participant learning and application.
Actively review and evaluate the enablement and training solutions library to determine when content needs to be updated, replaced or retired.
Identify the latest versions of documents, and obtain review / approval to publish or retire drafts (via an in-house electronic content management system)
Meet document project milestones in a timely manner
Proactively engage with the project team and provide status reports as requested
As requested, edit and revise documents to improve grammar, style, and punctuation
Monitor ticket system to obtain assignments; independently develop, track, and process assigned documentation; and update tickets to show status in the document life cycle
Identify and resolve issues to push deliverables to completion
Conduct independent research and work with internal / external global teams to produce or revise documentation that follows our client's global standards and is easily understood by the intended audience. Obtain information by interviewing and collaborating with our client's data center Engineering, Construction, and Operations teams.
Work with management to organize existing documentation, identify deficiencies, and prioritize solutions.
Scope and manage documentation projects to ensure that data center problems are identified and resolved quickly, that quality services are delivered, and that internal customer demands are met.

No formal supervisory responsibilities in this position. Provides informal assistance such as technical guidance, and/or training to coworkers. May lead project teams and/or plan, and supervise assignments of lower level employees.
Manages 3rd party project delivery resources/team. Responsible for identifying training needs, tracking performance, coaching, and motivating team members.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree (BA/BS/BEng/BArch) from College or University in a technical area of study. Minimum four years of related experience and/or training.
CERTIFICATES and/or LICENSES
PMP (US and/or Canada) and LEED AP preferred.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong organizational and analytical skills. Ability to provide efficient, timely, reliable and courteous service to customers. Ability to effectively present information.
Requires advanced knowledge of financial terms and principles. Ability to calculate intermediate figures such as percentages, discounts, and commissions. Conducts advanced financial analysis.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES
Intermediate skills with Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to read and understand architectural drawings. Knowledge in MS Project, leases, contracts, and construction practices.
Master's degree in technical communication, linguistics, journalism, engineering, science, or similar field. or have a minimum of seven (7) years hands-on / on-the-job experience writing technical instructional design / training content development
Ability to understand technology, demonstrated by having been employed as a technical writer, engineer, scientist, or similar.
Demonstrated history of successfully writing about engineering and technology in American English.
Experience with content management concepts and systems.
Understanding of operational needs in large-scale industrial settings; understanding of the data center life cycle.
Experience in process improvement and facilitation.
Experience in management (of people, projects, or programs), preferably in a global setting.
Experience with Google Apps (Docs, Sheets, Drawings, Calendar, Mail, Drive, etc.)
