Department/College Description The Division of Development and Alumni Relations is dedicated to advancing the mission and vision of RIT. Detailed Job Description Reporting to the Assistant Vice President of Marketing, Annual Giving and Stewardship, the Director provides critical guidance and counsel to the advancement staff and university administration on the viability of key capital and special projects. In addition, the Director will play a role in constructing operational and marketing plans for the university's strategic capital and special project campaigns, and, on a limited basis, will work with individual prospects on their giving plans. A strategic and detailed planner, the Director understands the role of development and alumni relations in a higher education setting.
Responsibilities include campaign planning, marketing and communication, stewardship, reporting to external and internal constituencies on the campaign's progress, managing schedules, and providing support for campaign staff, volunteers, and senior management. The Director will participate in the planning and implementation of the leadership and public phase activities of capital fundraising efforts. In addition, the Director will work with all Advancement staff on the coordination of campaign activities, ensuring donor contacts and solicitations are made in a timely fashion, as well as coordinating with the prospect management team on the assignment of prospects.
Coordinate assessment activity for capital and special project campaigns to ensure feasibility including prospect analysis, campaign timelines, gift charts, and goal setting.
Evaluate potential naming opportunities for new construction and major renovation projects, as well as virtual spaces such as Centers, Institutes, etc. without dedicated physical space. In partnership with stewardship staff, develop, implement, and maintain standards and policies for capital and special project naming and recognition opportunities.
Create operational and marketing plans for capital and special project campaign activity in partnership with the marketing and communications team.
Collaborate with the development team to assure fundraising objectives are achieved.
Develops marketing themes and strategies to communicate the core messages for all capital and special project campaigns.
Manage and coordinate campaign communications with appropriate staff to report campaign progress, prepare case statement, develop collateral materials and create both custom donor proposals and project proposal templates for each capital or special campaign to ensure accuracy and feasibility.
Coordinate development of external web resources for campaigns on university website and ensure site is maintained on an ongoing basis.
Collaborate and work closely with stewardship staff to create a strategic stewardship plan for capital and special project campaigns including gift agreements, acknowledgments, and recognition activities.
Partner with special events staff to orchestrate meaningful activities for prospects and donors including groundbreakings, project launches, and dedications.
Serves as the division's liaison to the university's Facilities Management Services for collaboration on capital projects, including participating in architect and construction meetings, securing architectural drawings for prospects, etc.
Required Minimum Qualifications
Minimum of 5 years of experience in direct or varied areas of development, alumni relations, or stewardship, preferably in a higher education setting.
High degree of computer literacy
Fluency with a relational database or CRM
Sophisticated interpersonal skills
Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to direct multi-channeled marketing and communications campaigns
Excellent analytical and organizational skills with the proven ability to oversee multiple and large-scale projects
Ability to work collaboratively in a complex, team-oriented environment
