TECHNICAL ASSOCIATE , Media Lab- Sculpting Evolution , to serve as lab manager in a fast-moving research laboratory working on new technologies for understanding and engineering with evolution. Will work closely with the lab administrator, head research scientist, and PI to ensure lab members are fully trained, and the lab (distributed in multiple buildings) is Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) Office compliant; assign lab jobs to full-time researchers, assign lab/office space, and manage lab check-in and check-out process; develop and manage lab protocols and equipment and train lab members on procedures/protocols; lead research on at least one project and maintain and transfect/lentifect tissue culture cells for diverse projects; manage interactions with EHS and work to ensure compliance; collaborate with EHS representatives on safety training; arrange lab clean-ups and schedule general cleaning; conduct weekly safety inspections and prepare the laboratory for biannual inspections; manage interactions with the Division of Comparative Medicine and Committee on Animal Care and ensure compliance; order drugs and monitor usage; order and maintain lab inventory; and order and oversee installation of lab equipment, perform basic maintenance, act as point of contact for service/maintenance, and assess when to deactivate.
REQUIRED : bachelor's degree in bioengineering or related field; at least four years' lab management or research technical assistant experience in a biology/biotechnology lab; experience with tissue culture; strong organizational, managerial, problem-solving, interpersonal, and verbal and written communication skills; ability to work independently and collaboratively; and proficiency with Excel, Word, and Google drive documents.
