Care for the health of animals and work to protect public health. Diagnose, treat, and research medical conditions and diseases of pets, livestock, and other animals. Serve as a key member of the practice.
Day to Day Responsibilities:
Examine animals and check their health status
Diagnose illnesses and determine the best treatment
Dress wounds of injured animals
Perform dental, ophthalmic and orthopedic surgeries
Vaccinate animals to prevent diseases
Spay and neuter cats and dogs as needed
Knowledge of medical equipment (e.g. Digital X-ray machines) and anesthesia procedures
Advise pet owners on nutrition, preventive healthcare, and general care
Conduct home visits occasionally, in case of emergency
Update client records
Operate state-of-the-art Midmark Dental Unit
Respond to emergencies outside of scheduled work hours as necessary
Education & Experience:
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM)
Licensed - Kentucky
Must be compassionate when working with animals and their owners. Must treat animals with kindness and respect, and must be sensitive when dealing with the owners of sick pets.
Decision-making skills. Must decide the correct method for treating the injuries and illnesses of animals.
Interpersonal skills.Strong communication skills are essential. Must be able to discuss recommendations and explain treatment options to animal owners and give instructions to staff.
Management skills. Assist with providing direction, delegating work, and overseeing daily operations.
Problem-solving skills.Must have strong problem-solving and diagnostic skills.
