Job Summary/Basic Function: Job Summary: The Associate Provost, Academic Affairs and Programs reports to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs and directly assists and advises the Provost in carrying out his/her responsibilities relative to academic programs/plans, academic policies, and faculty matters for online programs. This position closely collaborates with Deans, Chairs, faculty and other academic leaders to enhance the overall quality of educational programs and faculty achievement and growth in online programming. The position also has responsibility for working closely with other administrative offices, and interacting with students on such topics as academic concerns/appeals. Additionally, the position ensures the overall quality of educational programs offered online.
Essential Job Functions: The Associate Provost, Academic Affairs and Programs will proactively address the following responsibilities, opportunities, and goals:
Lead with Vision. The Associate Provost will provide strategic and organizational guidance focused on academic programming, quality of educational programs, accreditation, and faculty achievement and growth. This includes providing strategic planning for all new and enhanced academic programs and oversight of all accreditation activities.
Collaborative Partner. The Associate Provost will increase awareness of programs, build and foster relationships and creativity across disciplines and departments while maintaining the utmost professional integrity.
Enhance and Grow Programming. The Associate Provost will collaborate with academic leadership to lead, develop, and execute opportunities for improvement in the quality and outcomes of existing academic programs, retention and success of current students, while working to identify and develop new programs to meet the needs of today's learners and employers. This will increasingly require cross-disciplinary and multi-modal delivery of curriculum in a cost-effective manner.
Evaluate Programming. The Associate Provost will ensure an ongoing and comprehensive program evaluation and outcomes assessment with actionable recommendations for improvement. Additionally, this position will lead accreditation and re-accreditation activities on behalf of the Provost.
Manage Operations. The Associate Provost will lead the daily administrative and management operations including financial, operational, and human resources management for administrative units assigned by the Provost.
Align with Lamar's mission. The Associate Provost will lead organizational initiatives that align with the University's mission and goals while working collaboratively with all colleges, divisions, departments, and programs.
Other duties may be assigned to this position on a regular or occasional basis to respond to needs of the university.
Minimum Qualifications: Minimum Education Required: Doctoral degree from a regionally accredited university required.
Minimum Experience Required: At least 10 years of experience in higher education at a variety of levels. Understanding of university processes and programs. Ability to communicate well with a diverse group. Able to work collaboratively with large groups. Understands budget processes and able to shift resources as appropriate.
Key Competencies: Experience with the creation, assessment, evaluation, and improvement of academic programs, achievement of learners, quality measurement tools, and program accreditation in online programs. Experience with addressing the needs of faculty, staff, and students from a variety of backgrounds in online education. Able to exercise independent judgement and communicate effectively & efficiently with a variety of stakeholders: faculty, students, staff, administrators and external constituents in online programs. Ability to manage multiple tasks to meet internal and external deadlines. Ability to work collaboratively with external partners for recruitment and retention of students. Ability to use modern tools and technologies to analyze data and trends to solve problems and create action plans Experienced with curriculum delivery, sequencing, degree programming, and student degree progression and optimization of scheduling and resources, particularly with online programs. Able to creatively envision changes within educational environments. Ideal candidate will be creative and collaborative and will listen to and respect the voices of all university personnel.
Physical Requirements: Able to lift 10 pounds Able to function at a desk and with a computer and using a telephone.
Job Conditions: The position may require occasional evenings and/or weekends to meet university and departmental needs.
