Possess specialized theoretical understanding and practical experience in Histopathology to include tissue processing, microsectioning of frozen blocks and subsequent manual routine, special and immunostains; tissue processing, microsectioning of plastic blocks and tissue preparation for EM studies.
Demonstates independent technical judgement and effectively resolves technical issues related to neuromuscular laboratory
Performs routine histochemistry, special stains, immunoperoxidase & immunofluorescence stains; tissue processing, sectioning and preparation for EM studies
Ably operates cryostats and ultramicrotome
Willing to work as a team and help others beyond the assigned primary responsibility to finish the day's laboratory workload. - 50%
Analyzes, resolves and troubleshoots day to day laboratory tasks as needed
Facilitates troubleshooting and resolution of routine technical needs
Assists in setting up, evaluating and troubleshooting new techniques
Effectively operates, troubleshoots and maintain laboratory equipment which includes all types of equipment such as cryostat and ultramicrotome
Successfully carries out and maintains QA/QC procedures as per policy and procedures - 20%
Maintains statistical records and other related records pertaining to the laboratory workflow such as the Neuromuscular Laboratory digital share folder
Assists in training of new hire and other supporting staff
Prepares various chemical and reagents

Master's Degree & New York State Dept. of Education Clinical Lab Technician//Technologist license or Histology Technician license plus 3 years of related experience.
BA/BS & New York State Dept. of Education Clinical Lab Technician/Technologist or Histology Technician License plus 6 years of related experience. OR
Equivalent in education, training and experience.
Ability to work independently under limited supervision and willingness to work as a team with other laboratory workers to finish day to day tasks
Specialized theoretical understanding and practical experience in histopathology lab work
Experience with laboratory equipment such as cryostat, ultramicrotome and computer applications
Experience in training and coordinating work of lower level technicians
Ability to perform work in a neat, orderly, and safe manner and in enforcing safety regulations
Experience in lab work that requires good fine motor control most needed in EM tissue preparation and teasing nerve fibers.
