The Department of Respiratory Therapy at SUNY Downstate is seeking a per diem Respiratory Therapist II. The successful candidate will: - Provide respiratory care for Adult, Pediatric & Neonatal patients under the direction of a physician. - Make rounds to determine if patient is receiving proper respiratory care. - Ventilator management - Draw and analyze blood for arterial blood gases. - Record respiratory progress of patients who are being ventilated mechanically. - Recording the respiratory status of all patients - Assist physicians in ventilating patients who can not sustain their own respiratory function during cardio-respiratory arrests. - Provide sputum induction - Administration of Nitric Oxide Therapy. - Explain the use of respiratory care devices to patient and/or family members and assist in the use thereof. - Make entries in patient's progress record and hospital computer systems. - Clean and decontaminate equipment once removed from patient use - Provide chest physio-therapy and assist in pulmonary lavage/ suctioning (DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE ABOVE POSITION DESCRIPTION) QUALIFICATIONS: REQUIRED: - AAS in respiratory therapy or graduate of a two year AMA approved RT program. - Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT), NYS License. - BLS (to be obtained within one year of employment). PREFERRED: - Registered Respiratory Therapist (RR) with NPS, NRP, PALS and ACLS.
