| Summary of Position: | Support the Photography program and initiatives within the college that enhance student learning and safety. Responsible for the ongoing purchase and maintenance of digital lab and darkroom tools/equipment, providing a safe and organized learning environment. Responsibilities also include the purchase and maintenance of consumable supplies and materials to ensure efficiency of the lab areas, lighting studio, equipment cage and classroom spaces. This is a part-time position to work a maximum of 28 hours per week from August 1 to May 31 annually. A monthly work schedule will be implemented in consultation with the KCAD Photography Program Chairperson and the KCAD Dean of Academic Affairs. Knowledge of mechanical and electrical engineering related to equipment installation and repair.
Experience in supervisory and/or leadership roles. | |
| Duties/Responsibilities: | Responsible for the ongoing purchase, inventory and maintenance of photography equipment and consumable supplies within the KCAD Photography program while also providing a safe and organized educational environment for faculty and students.
Implement safety standards and work with Photography faculty and facilities staff to insure proper protocols.
Address curricular needs relative to equipment and supplies.
Support instructional activities.
Provide oversight of student employees including hiring and training while addressing safety, security and operational protocols.
Assign schedules, work assignments, and monitor workflow of student employees.
Provide and serve as an open channel for communication between faculty, students, and student employees to ensure instructional expectations are met.
Oversee and order all supplies and materials necessary for programmatic and facility needs including printer ink, darkroom chemistry, equipment, and other photography lab materials.
Maintain and repair equipment including darkroom enlargers, film and RC print dryers, inkjet printers, tungsten and strobe studio lighting equipment, digital/film cameras and optical lenses.
Install, maintain and update hardware and software relevant to the Digital Photography Lab including iMac workstations, scanning/printing hardware and software, color management software.
Maintain and update equipment inventory/checkout software.
Provide instructional support for photography faculty related to technology and studio/classroom spaces as needed.
Assist additional KCAD programs with photo equipment needs, pending availability. | |
| Skills and Abilities: | Excellent verbal, written and customer service communication skills.
Proficiency with MacOS software including Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Cloud and Epson printing/scanning software.
Proficiency with traditional black and white/film print darkroom processes.
Proficiency with small, medium and large format camera devices.
Proficiency with digital capture devices including DSLR cameras and flatbed scanners.
Proficiency with tungsten and strobe lighting systems.
Experience with implementing safety regulations related to photography facilities, photographic chemicals and photography equipment.
Ability to work with photographic chemicals and inkjet printer ink. | |
