The Title IX Coordinator/Equity Investigator leads the University's efforts to prevent and respond to discrimination, harassment, sexual violence, and discriminatory retaliation and is responsible for oversight and coordination of the daily responsibilities associated with equity compliance and Title IX compliance. They are responsible for conducting investigations pertaining to discrimination and harassment including any violations of the Non-Discrimination Policy and the Sex/Gender-based Harassment, Discrimination, and Sexual Misconduct Policy; directing and implementing institutional response efforts; and leading informal resolutions needed to address instances of discrimination and harassment and prevent their recurrence. They will develop, monitor, and update policies and reporting procedures for equity compliance and Title IX complaints and issues. The Title IX Coordinator/Equity Investigator will oversee climate surveys regarding the areas of equity compliance and Title IX. They also provide training and information to the university community related to Title IX, non-discrimination, and non-retaliation policies.
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a related field (e.g., social work, student affairs, psychology, sociology, criminal justice, government) and five years related experience
Two or more years of experience conducting investigations or adjudications in the areas of conduct, employment, civil rights, compliance or a similar field; or an equivalent combination of relevant education and professional experience demonstrating the required knowledge, skill, and abilities to proficiently perform the functions of an investigator
Demonstrated knowledge of current government regulations that pertain to students, faculty and University staff, such as Title IX, Title VII, and other anti-discrimination laws and regulations in an educational setting
Experience exercising independent and sound judgment with the ability to remain impartial and neutral throughout the investigative process and in highly emotional situations
Experience in the successful development and implementation of educational and training programs
Demonstrated ability to present ideas clearly and effectively in writing and verbally
Strong interpersonal skills with ability to work effectively individually and as a member of a team, including the ability to work effectively with a range of diverse individuals at all organizational levels.
Demonstrated experience managing difficult, confidential, and sensitive issues.
JD or a Master's degree in student affairs, higher education, public administration, law, social work, counseling or similar field
Familiarity with trauma-informed investigation practices, fundamental fairness in process, and/or student conduct
Prior work experience in an institution of higher education working with college students, faculty, or staff, in student conduct, dealing with employee grievances, ombuds person or an office of discrimination and harassment
ATIXA certification or related certification
Essential Functions and percent of time::
50% lead the University's Title IX compliance efforts and serve as the University's subject matter expert on the requirements of and compliance with Title IX and other related federal and state regulations, including the development, implementation, and monitoring of appropriate website content, disclosures, policies, procedures, and practices designed to comply with federal and state regulations and case law; conduct investigations and ensure timely resolution of all Title IX related reports, which includes identifying and interviewing witnesses, gathering and securing relevant documentation, identifying other information, credibility assessments, determining whether a violation of policy has occurred or refer to the appropriate adjudicating body for determination, and drafting a report to detail issues investigated and determinations made; develop and provide training and outreach related to Title IX topics and applicable policy to the University community; lead or serve on University committees and collaborate with the University's Clery Act Coordinator to ensure the accuracy in reporting annual crime statistics; manage records (digital and paper files) in accordance with the University Records Retention Policy.
40% conduct and manage investigations of alleged discrimination, harassment, and retaliation including, but not limited to, allegations based on race, color, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, religion, national origin, or disability; provide equity compliance training and education in the areas of discrimination and harassment; identify and integrate best practices in equity compliance into university policies and procedures to ensure that the University's processes, responses, and policies are consistent with federal and state laws and regulations related to compliance with non-discrimination laws.
10% Other duties as assigned to support the work of the Office of University Compliance.
