SENIOR WRITER ON TECH POLICY, ETHICS AND SOCIAL ISSUES , Technology Review (MITTR) , to be responsible for coverage of the intersection of technology and policy, politics, regulation, ethics, labor, privacy, and similar areas. Will exercise broader ownership of assigned topic area and ensure that stories and everything MITTR produces on that topic is original, insightful, and compelling. Responsibilities include producing at least six in-depth features per year that could run in either the print magazine or the weekly online "cover story" slot; making skilled and creative use of storytelling techniques, including the various forms enabled by digital media; proposing new approaches to and themes of coverage; collaborating with MITTTR colleagues in other departments (e.g., events) and oversee other content relevant to their coverage area, ensuring the highest journalistic standards; assigning and editing freelance stories in topic area as required (e.g., for a themed print issue); and representing MITTR at conferences, in the press, and to audiences or communities it wants to reach who have a special interest in that topic.
Job Requirements REQUIRED : bachelor's in journalism or relevant field (advanced degree preferred); at least five years' journalism experience, including experience in technology or science journalism; proven writing ability; track record of producing well-written, compelling, and incisive stories about technology; ability to distill information from a range of sources; a desire to become proficient in new journalistic tools and storytelling forms; a high-level of numeracy; and willingness to explore and develop new journalistic forms that could give work a greater impact and to propose new initiatives that could increase MITTR's authority and influence on that topic.
