Position Summary: The responsibilities for this position will include some or all of the following: teaching, student advising, service and cooperative extension and administrative responsibilities. Your responsibilities may include involvement in off-campus, evening or weekend duties, as well as student recruitment, retention, and placement efforts. Education/Experience: Master's degree in Fashion Design plus one year of experience in the fashion industry in the area of technical fashion design, prototype development, computer-aided design, production pattenrmaking, digital illustration, and industrial production manufacturing methods or an equivalent combination of fashion design education and experience in the fashion industry. Teaching experience in technical fashion design preferred. Knowledge/Skills/Ability: Industry knowledge of fashion, technical fashion design, Gerber computer-aided design, manual and digital fashion illustration, production flat patternmaking, and couture-level construction. Successful demonstrated working knowledge of Gerber (CAD), Photoshop, Illustrator, and Office Suite. Documented higher-level technology skills related to technical fashion design. Demonstrated history of developing and maintaining a professional network in support of internship opportunities and field trip sites. Ability to work effectively with peers in the department, School of Design, other departments at the University, and in Career Services for advising, mentoring, and placement of majors in Fashion Design. Working knowledge of active learning as a means to develop the major program and to more fully expand a student's problem-solving and critical thinking skills specifically related to the fashion design discipline. Ability to read, listen, and communicate information and ideas through spoken and written language. Ability to use various means of communication (e.g. telephone, computer, other electronic devices) to work with students, peers, and outside contacts. Keep current in the field of technical Fashion Design. Demonstrated ability to teach and evaluate undergraduate students. Familiarity with instructional techniques designed to reach students of varying preparation levels and abilities. Excellent communication skills are essential and a strong commitment to excellence in teaching, service and technology application in the classroom. All courses require strong technology and organizational skills and experience working with Blackboard or a similar platform. Ability to travel physically to field trip site locations regionally. Valid driver's license with good driving record; must be insurable. Essential Functions: Teaching responsibilities include preparing for and delivering classroom instruction; maintaining and improving competence in subjects being taught; preparing course materials; conferring with students on course materials; directing individual and group studies; producing and evaluating; maintaining appropriate number of office hours, and participating in the program's exhibits, field trips, and the Annual Fashion Show. Written examinations and paper assignments; evaluating presentations; supervising independent study projects. Student advising includes time spent meeting with students regarding career matters. Administrative responsibilities include participation in curriculum development, writing syllabi, grading course work, and submitting final grades. University service includes service on the Faculty Council, school and departmental committees. Contribute to a community of educators by participating in professional development activities offered by the Department, University, and/or professional organizations. Assist with marketing the Fashion Design program to prospective students.
