Mental Health America (MHA) seeks an Individual Giving Manger to develop and grow its individual giving program, with a major focus on online and social media fundraising. MHA gets most of its individual giving, even major gifts, through online and social media channels. Candidates should show strength and interest in online giving. The Individual Giving Manager will work within a development team where other members of the team have corporate, planned, foundation, and government giving in their portfolios.
Reporting to the Chief of Staff, the Manager contributes to and implements an individual giving strategy with the goals of educating, engaging, cultivating, and inspiring financial support.
While MHA is headquartered in Alexandria, VA, this position is eligible for remote employment.
Specific duties include:
Implements an individual giving strategy.
Manages, cultivates, and stewards relationships with major donors as part of MHA’s signature major giving program, the Clifford Beers Society, many of whom originate online.
Manages online and email appeal campaigns, including writing content, and managing any cross-channel messaging on social media.
Advances and manages a recurring donor program.
Manages content of new and evergreen assets including donation forms, crowdfunding campaigns, and other elements of the digital donor experience.
Executing specific fundraising campaigns, such as Giving Tuesday or the Annual Appeal, in online and offline channels as appropriate.
Collaborates with the VP of Development and the Chief of Staff to develop donor strategy, create collateral materials to engage and retain current donors, as well as influence prospective donors engaging with MHA platforms.
Pulls monthly donation reports and track metrics, suggesting new strategies to increase engagement.
Responds to individuals contacting development department through email, phone, Facebook, or other means, providing thorough information that encourages them to become life-long supporters.
Maintain updates in donor database and keeps data clean.
Prepares and sends timely thank you letters to donors.
Identifies compelling stories and visuals to support the strategic goals of fundraising.
Manages charitable registration, CFC applications, and other external reporting vehicles.

The ideal candidate:
Shows a strong focus on online giving.
Manages relationships with individuals and places a high priority on regular communication and good customer service.
Has written successful funding appeals.
Speaks well before groups of 5-100 constituents.
Can work independently and efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
Takes direction well.
Writes extremely well – all communications should be error-free.
Has experience working with donor databases, as well as common office software.
Works well with both program staff and external funders.
Has, at a minimum, 2 years of accelerated growth in fundraising. 4+ years preferred.
Professional or personal experience with mental health and/or other chronic health conditions or disabilities is a plus. Any experience with special events can be a plus as well.
Telecommuting is allowed.
