The Role Responsibilities The purpose of this role is to assist with the management and oversight of the digital asset custody venture's Principal Risk Types ("PRTs"). This includes the development and delivery of a programmed set of assessments, and the review and challenge around each PRT to support all relevant attestations made around Operational Risk.
The role holder will champion risk awareness in the organization, assist with producing material to support this, and relate this to the current threat landscape. They will a have a "finger on the pulse" of current challenges and hazards in the crypto-asset market. They will be able to help support data driven research to identify key trends and to analyse the momentum of the Crypto-asset landscape. The role will report directly into the Chief Risk Officer. Strategy Operational Risk spans an array of potential for financial loss and negative impact on our clients and providers of capital. A developed understanding of this potential and the business case for minimising loss and impact is a requirement for this role.
While risk management is carried out by the First Line, the digital asset custody venture's Risk team is accountable for monitoring and ensuring that Risk is appropriately identified, assessed, understood/calibrated, controlled and managed, within a clearly articulated Risk Appetite. The Risk Team is also responsible for ensuring appropriate escalation, follow-up and learning from Risk Events / Incidents. The role-holder is expected to deliver the required expertise to help facilitate delivery of these accountabilities.
The role-holder is required to understand the role and responsibilities of the Risk Team as a whole and how these are discharged by the team, actively contributing to development and improvement in the same, as well as to remain informed of pertinent industry and organisational developments.
Risk Identification: Development of a top-down and bottom-up ongoing process to identify emerging risks and revise existing risks. Identification and agreement of risk owners.
Risk Assessment: Development and embedding of the risk assessment process across 1st and 2nd line. Provision of guiding and support in performing inherent and residual risk assessments. Review and challenge of risk assessment outputs.
Risk Controls: Documentation and validation of risk controls, embedding of a controls inventory. Articulation of control testing timelines and development of a training plan to educate control owners (as needed).
Control Activities: Identification and documentation of all controls, their alignment to the Risk Taxonomy. Agreement of control owners, development / implementation of on-going validation, testing plans and control attestation mechanism.
Risk Appetite: Play an active role in enterprise-wide strategy definition and business planning, including definition of Risk Appetite for Operational Risk, ensuring the same informs risk identification and control design, where relevant, and proactively providing input and advice as to how to address any Risk Appetite breaches.
Governance: Develop and support appropriate governance and routines (committees, forums and other) to support the Risk Team's mandate.
People & Risk Culture: Support a culture that recognises and reflects Operational Risk in its operating model and its decision making.
Fully adhere to - and actively contribute to - all agreed governance (e.g. committees) and other routines (regular meetings, attendance at other forums) for the Risk Team or, where applicable and requested.
Act as an advocate for the Risk Team, its objectives and best practice in Operational Risk management more broadly where opportunity arises.
Adhere to such other process and governance requirements as requested by line management, from time to time.
People and Talent
Team Management: Uphold and reinforce the independence of the Risk Team.
Leadership: Lead through example and tone and help to build the appropriate culture and values within the team and across the wider organisation, communicating vision and building commitment and energy to focus on key priorities.
Ensure all activity adheres to the Risk Management Framework, with a specific focus on ensuring an effective framework for the management of Operational Risks within the team as they pertain to the role.
Demonstrate an awareness and understanding of the regulatory framework in which the digital asset custody venture's Risk team operates.
Help deliver 'effective governance'; capability to challenge colleagues effectively; and willingness to work in an open and cooperative manner with all.
