We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as Finance Operations Manager- Global Finance.
The role holder will have responsibility to oversee the monthly ledger close process across HSBC Life International Limited, and its parent entity INAP as well as a small group of property holding subsidiaries
Facilitate change and work closely with the business and other teams within Finance to understand the accounting, reporting implication of the new initiatives, projects, and ensure the timely implementation of such changes from the finance perspective
Robustly reviewing current accounting and reporting practice and procedures, identify and implement initiatives for continuous improvement, and supporting communication on finance matters to Board, Audit Committee, and other key forums in a clear and concise manner.
The role holder will build on an existing good working knowledge of life insurance products, insurance accounting including embedded value reporting and financial close processes, and will have experience in dealing with senior stakeholders both within the Finance function and the wider business.
The role holder will be the key reviewer for the monthly ledger close process end to end, working in close partnership with the offshore team and their leadership.
The role holder will be a key member of the Insurance Finance team, reporting to the Senior Manager, Finance Operations, and with frequent interaction with the Chief Financial Officer and other members of business senior management including the Hong Kong CEO, Chief Actuary and Chief Investment Officer on finance matters.
To support the preparation of all meeting materials and governance papers including to the entity Investment Impairment Committee and Investment Valuation Committee.
The role holder will also support the development and implementation of various improvement initiatives. Two major projects are inflight to significantly automate and streamline the close process, focused the investment portfolio and interfacing of the policy administration system to the ledger with full transactional granularity.
Strong academic background in accounting is highly preferred
Knowledge and understanding of major technical components of the insurance financial statements and their dynamics.
Understanding of life insurance products and accounting frameworks, including embedded value measures and of insurance operational accounting and financial controllership processes.
Working knowledge of IFRS 17 requirements advantageous, but can be developed on the job as the project progresses
Experience from partnering closely with teams performing life insurance actuarial calculations, including statutory reserving, and embedded value reporting would be highly advantageous
Proven leadership ability and team working skills, ideally in an international environment.
Excellent communication skills and ability to manage multiple stakeholders, both internal and external, and conflicting priorities.
Strong sense of risk management and controls.
A mind set of continuous improvement and aiming for excellence.
