The Role Responsibilities
The Data Manager is a management role, focused on ensuring the efficient and effective operation and usage of data. The role acts as an interface to stakeholders external to the FCC Data Team (up- and downstream), ensuring effective integration of the Data Management process with other processes to meet requirements. Data Managers work closely with:
FCC Data Analysts , who help to define transformation rules and provide data insight
FCC Data Engineers , who design and implement the processes by which data is collected and generated
FCC Data Quality Analysts , who detect, report and track data quality issues wherever the arise
Upstream and Downstream Process Owners , who own the business activities that will lead to constantly changing requirements
Technology Delivery Teams, who will run the end-to-end execution of tasks (development, SIT, UAT etc.) as prioritised by the Data Manager
Data Managers control the pipeline of work for the data team, acting as the primary entry point to outsiders . They have primary responsibility for actively seeking out changes elsewhere in the business that will impact the data team's work and sit as representatives in the appropriate change governance forums. Data Managers should enjoy the challenge of engaging with multiple, diverse stakeholders across many different parts of the business. They should be champions of the FCC Data Team, working to publicise its objectives, priorities and challenges externally. They measure their success via the smooth running of the wider team, achieving on-time deliveries that are well communicated, appropriately endorsed and with actionable outcomes. Responsibilities for FCC Data Managers:
Create and enforce policies for effective Data Management
Represent the FCC Data Team externally, in particular in change forums, providing sufficient technical expertise to those groups to enable impact assessment, timeline estimates and costing for new business initiatives
Define and manage internal processes for prioritising, triaging and delivering data initiatives, working across the team to ensure objectives are aligned, funding is in place and quality data coverage is assured
Generate and socialise management information to senior stakeholders, documenting the book of work pipeline for the data team, identifying key trends that are driving this workload and recommend options for increased efficiencies
Support external parties in leveraging the FCC dataset, within an agreed framework and monitor database usage across the FCC ecosystem
Work across internal and external teams to identify and escalate capacity constraints, providing pragmatic options for resolution and working with senior managers to resolve these.
