Parsons School of Design seeks a Part-Time Researcher to support a three-year research grant situated within the Healthy Materials Lab, a funded initiative that is housed within the Parsons Design Lab. This is a part-time, temporary position through April 30, 2021.
The Researcher will report to the Director of Healthy Materials Lab, but will work with little supervision. This individual will work closely with the Directors of the Lab, Assistant Director, and other project staff on the social media strategy and other communications work of the Lab. This individual will develop and drive forward communication strategies on Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, as well as communication strategies around events and the general work of the Lab. They will also look to create earned media opportunities through collaborations with external organizations and influencers who can disseminate the work of the Lab.
The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years of relevant communications experience, including developing organic social media campaigns, continually evolving the HML brand, be deeply committed to fostering awareness of toxic chemicals in the built environment, and have excellent visual and verbal skills. They will be committed to getting results in a fast-paced environment and be able to handle a heavy workload. This position provides a flexible work schedule with a high expectation of reliability. Responsibilities: Coordinate with Directors of Healthy Materials Lab to align research with grant deliverables through communications initiatives; Develop media campaigns, track performance and marketplace trends and analysis; Create and maintain strategy for continuously engaging all project partners to maintain connections, encourage success and create a strong program presence; Proactively engage constituents through the use of a range of media including storytelling, video, printed educational materials, dialogue; Create communication tools to highlight and elevate the work that is already being done by community-based organizations; Research innovative communications materials and content to feature on HML social media channels, and create expert and impactful copy; Continue to accelerate the growth of HML audience numbers and mailing lists.
Graduate Degree preferred in Communications, Strategic Design, Journalism or related field with related experience; Experience working with public and/or affordable housing residents and other community-based organizations; Deep knowledge of healthy materials and their relationship to public and environmental health; Excellent verbal and graphic communications skills to continuously evolve HML's brand; Proficiency in a wide range of communications, analytical tools, and UX testing; Ability to work as an effective collaborator with a team; Ability to take initiative, and follow-through on multiple tasks while maintaining a high degree of accuracy, speed and poise; Excellent project-management, organizational and inter-personal service skills.
