As a Mental Health Worker you need to know how to:
Communicate professionally and in a culturally sensitive manner with caseworkers, families, visiting friends, volunteers, and others outside the agency.
Supervise contact between children and families.
Supervise and be involved in childrenâ™s daily hygiene routines, chores, meals, play and bathroom monitoring when appropriate.
Monitor and document treatment / program progress in a timely, accurate and legible manner using agency forms such as but not limited to, physical holds, locked door time-outs and incidents in accordance with agency and state policies and procedures.
Document the following â“ daily progress notes, monthly medication consultation sheets, quarterly milieu reports, as well as shift and meal tracking, and daily debriefing logs.
Be responsible for tracking necessary trainings to maintain certifications.
Supervise, teach, monitor and be directly involved in providing hands on instruction and guidance including daily, weekly, and other house hold chores.
Monitor clientâ™s administration of prescribed medication.
Assist clients to understand and follow milieu program rules.
Implement crisis prevention / intervention techniques (i.e.TCI training, time-outs, locked door time-outs) as well as procedures (i.e. runaway, injury, emergency.)
Report unusual occurrences with clients per agency and state policy and procedure.
Transport children using agency vehicles.
Implement treatment according to defined treatment plans as assigned by the treatment team and provides a supportive structured environment for residents in order to promote growth and ensure safety.
Report promptly for scheduled shifts.
Tackle new therapeutic approaches / plans with body language and communication that communicates openness and willingness to try. Use non-verbal cues that consistently communicate professionalism.
Ability to differentiate personal and professional boundaries that are conducive to the creation and maintenance of a positive work environment.
Flexible with work schedule to accommodate the needs of the milieu and to ensure safety for all.
Maintain emotional stability and be able to function effectively with children who may have psychological, developmental and behavioral disorders. The staff must be able to demonstrate appropriate daily behavior, appropriate expression of emotions, and appropriate role modeling.
Knowledgeable in the Neurosequential model of therapeutics, including the use of somatosensory and regulating activities that meet the needs of the children in a developmentally appropriate manner. Therapeutic touch may include hand massages, back rubs, and hugs.

High school diploma or equivalent.
To be considered for a Mental Health Worker position you must be at least 21 years of age
Current Driverâ™s License and must obtain Colorado Driver's License within 30 days of moving to Colorado
Motor vehicle record and proof of automobile insurance coverage to be updated annually, required
Bachelorâ™s degree (B.A. / B.S.) from four year College or university
At least one (1) year of relevant experience with residential / milieu programming or serving children with psychological disabilities
