The Director, Carbon to Value Program, develops and leads an exciting new three-year program to bring together startups focused on capturing or converting carbon waste into valuable products or services and connecting them to major industry partners. The Director will develop an innovative strategy to cultivate and source corporate partners as both sources of funding and as industry representatives by participating in the Corporate Leadership Council. The Director will play a key role including funding core operations and programs like the Center’s corporate innovation and entrepreneurship programs, and collaborate with our program partners at Greentown Labs and Fraunhofer Tech. Develop and manage relationships with key industry actors and Investors, NYSERDA interaction and deliverable reporting. The Director will also collaborate closely with other UFL team members on key tasks of incubator operations.
Required Education: Bachelor's Degree or equivalent
Preferred Education: Master's Degree
Required Experience: Candidate should have 7-10 years experience in developing a cleantech / carbon mitigation program from the ground up, cultivating industry relationships, meeting client needs, liaising with stakeholders, fundraising, delivering projects on time, and developing and managing a curriculum.
Preferred Experience: A minimum of 7-10 years of experience with roles in project/program management, climate/carbon industry, venture capital, fundraising, curriculum development, or work experience at a startup, government agency, or energy/utility/industrial company. Any work experience related to the New York State Reforming the Energy Vision (REV) policy framework will be seen as a plus. Experience evaluating applications to an incubator or accelerator program, or any experience teaching, coaching, or as a speaker at a conference or panel discussion will also be highly valued. Experience or interest in playing a leadership role is also a plus.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Demonstrated ability to develop a program from the ground up. • Demonstrated ability to develop and lead a team, including mentoring junior team members. • Excellent presentation, public speaking, and group facilitation skills. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. • Mission driven to reduce carbon emissions. • Ability to quickly foster relationships with industry peers and relevant stakeholder groups. • Ability to manage multiple projects in a very fast-paced, performance-oriented environment. • Organization and project management skills, with the ability to plan effectively, meet multiple deadlines simultaneously, and coordinate others' involvement within a dynamic and fast-paced setting. • Demonstrate broad systems-level thinking as well as be capable of in-depth analytical thinking • Flexible in assuming other duties as needed.
Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Informed and experienced in carbon policy, energy efficiency, renewable energy, or utility industry. Experience in carbon industries related to cement, construction, advanced materials and clean energy are all relevant.
