Berkeley Lab's Security and Emergency Service Division has an opening for a Security Systems Technician.
In this exciting role, you will be responsible for the development of the systems design, integration, implementation, testing, manufacturing, and component maintenance and end of life schedule for a range of physical security systems employed for Access Control, Video Surveillance, Alarm Monitoring, Intrusion Detection, and other electronic security systems. You will be required to read and interpret as-builts, schematics, sketches, topology diagrams, data flow diagrams, parts list, component layout diagrams, assembly, maintenance, calibration, and operating manuals for the implementation support, maintenance, and day-to-day tasks and processes related to the support of the physical security systems and group operations, to include data entry, processing, reconciling, reporting, data maintenance entry, and administrative support tasks.
What You Will Do: Install, Inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and upgrade the access control, CCTV, intercom and alarm system hardware. Identify installation and maintenance activities that support the Physical Security Systems' preventative maintenance plans. Assist Senior Physical Security Technologists in performing regularly scheduled preventive maintenance on physical security systems. Complete a high-quality device and component installation activities and maintenance activities as necessary. Execute recorded video pulls as necessary. Provide Pre-installation support with site surveys, wire identification, and wire route tracing Support the Security Systems group with planning, scheduling, documentation, organizing support effort, and materials needs. Maintain and track documentation on operational performance and service requests of the LBNL access control, CCTV, security devices, and related systems. Learn to be a System Administrator to the Physical Access Control System (PACS) and Video Management System (VMS). Support Public Address audio systems. Provides information related to project as-built documentation to be developed into "As built" drawings. Attend construction meetings as required for individual projects. Interpret blueprints, schematics, manuals, and other specifications to determine installation procedures. Attend and perform training functions as necessary. Ability to obtain and LBNL Qualified Electrical Worker (QEW) for low voltage work.
Additional Responsibilities as needed: May provide technical instructions and /or training to other non-exempt personnel. Provide technical support/training to the LBNL community on physical and video management systems, Access Managers (SAM), and Badge station operations.
What Is Required: An AA degree in Electronics Engineering Technology, Computer Science, or Computer Technology or the equivalent in formal military or industrial training is preferred. 2+ years of related experience in the areas of access control, security, public address systems, and CCTV systems. General personal computer application skills with spreadsheets, databases, word processors, and graphics. Ability to climb stairs and ladders, work from heights and confined spaces, and lift 23 kg (50 lbs.). Color vision sufficient to discern wiring and component color codes, and safety-related colored signs, lamps, and warning devices. Knowledge of and ability to use electronic test equipment, and appropriate hand, and power tools of the trade. Ability to interpret complex tests, assembly, calibration, maintenance, or operating procedures. Valid Driver's license. Knowledge of IP based and electronic security systems. Knowledge of IP based and electronic communication systems. Knowledge of basic electricity such as AC/DC theory, ohms law, ability to read and understand a digital volt/ohm meter.
Additional Desired Qualifications: LAN and WAN system knowledge. Computer-Aided electronics drafting and design-documentation skills. Certification(s) as an Administrator or Technician for an Access Control System or Video Management System. Planning, teaching, organizing, and writing skills. Experience working in a research and development environment.
