DIRECTOR OF NURSING - Public Health Services
The Director of Nursing in Public Health Services (PHS) will lead the clinical nursing enterprise of PHS, serving on the Executive Team of the PHS Department. This position will directly oversee clinical nurse management and all nursing personnel for six programmatic branches within PHS, as well as directly oversee all Public Health Nurse Managers or Leads in each branch. This position will work with Public Health Nurses in other Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA) departments such as Aging and Independence Services, Child Welfare Services, and Regional Operations. Additionally, this position will have a dotted reporting line to HHSA's Chief Nursing Officer and receive direction from the Chief Nursing Officer to implement HHSA-wide nursing practices.

A valid California Registered Nurse license is required at the time of application and must be maintained throughout employment in this position; AND,
Public Health Services Option: Five (5) years of recent, increasingly responsible experience in public health nursing field. At least two (2) years of experience must have included the supervision of lower-level nursing staff while at the level of a Supervising Public Health Nurse in the County of San Diego or equivalent, in an official public health agency, or similar agency or organization providing a generalized public health nursing program; OR, experience in managing the overall activities of a public health program or clinic services; AND, a valid Public Health Nurse Certificate.
A master's or bachelor's degree from an accredited U.S. college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency in nursing is highly desirable.
A valid CPR card and National Provider Identification Number (NPI) are required at time of appointment.
An ideal candidate is one who has significant experience in a nursing management role in a skilled nursing facility; able to lead a nursing management team in an acute long term care environment and have demonstrated experience with nursing care models, development of staffing strategies based on volume and acuity, strategic planning, performance improvement, data gathering/analysis, project management, and CMS/CDPH regulatory requirements; ability to work with multidisciplinary teams, excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to multi-task, work in a fast-paced environment, and has excellent customer service skills.
Experience with Minimum Data Set (MDS) is highly desirable.
