Harvard Business School seeks a highly motivated individual to work closely with a HBS faculty member and two leading executives to create and deliver a new second year MBA course, AI in Market-Facing Functions (AIM). The course is focused on applying AI the right way to optimize the market-facing functions of a firm (i.e. marketing, sales, and support). The course will use Aible Business software for analyzing field data. The successful candidate will work on the development and delivery of new cases, notes, and related materials for the upcoming academic year.
The Research Associate (RA) position reports directly to faculty supervisors and administrative manager in the Research Staff Services office. The ideal candidate will be comfortable in an environment that requires an exacting level of quality and intellectual rigor. They will enjoy collaborating with HBS faculty. They will be keenly interested in the topic of market-facing functions; they may bring outside experience or academic interest to the subject. They will believe in the potential that outstanding teaching brings to a course and the partnership that engaged students and dedicated teachers share in the classroom.
Under the direction of the faculty, the RA will conduct background research, draft new cases, and update existing cases and other course materials along with the datasets and analyses of datasets that accompany these materials.
In collaboration with the faculty, prepare and assess assignments, exams, reports, and other course tools. The RA may also provide tutorial support to students outside the classroom.
Represent HBS to outside entities: interacting with prominent individuals (grace under pressure is essential). Interview decision makers at companies around the world and work closely with company representatives on the case development and course development efforts (e.g., case supplements, rewrites, teaching notes, and multimedia products).
Exercise independent decision making with regard to progression of research project and methodologies. When confronted with unexpected research data, be able to make deductions, add insight, and draw conclusions to share with faculty. Make recommendations to and create original written material for faculty based on independent research.
Ensure compliance with department, University and federal regulations. Be aware of department, School, University policies and potential outside research policies. Ideal RA candidates will be comfortable in an environment that requires a high level of independence, intellectual curiosity, and the ability to use discretionary judgment.
This is a full-time term appointment starting this summer (ASAP, start date flexible) through June 30, 2021 with potential for reappointment. All HBS RA roles are structured as one year appointments with the potential for renewal.

Advanced degree required, strong preference for MBA. Project management experience, strong organizational skills, and proven ability to work independently and creatively.
Evidence of academic excellence and careful, skillful writing is required. 2-4 years of relevant work experience is desired. The successful candidate must have experience creating or extensive experience using technical tools such that they could develop them for others; have solid financial, analytical, conceptual skills; work well independently; and be at home in an academic environment.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, organization, research, writing, and editing skills are required. Successful candidates will demonstrate a proven ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and to flexibly adapt to changes in priorities; to work calmly under deadline pressure; to work both independently and as a team member; to take initiative; and to follow projects through to completion. The ability to read academic, subject-specific information and write a reasoned and thoughtful analysis or produce a synthesized interpretation, is necessary. Diplomacy, integrity, and judgement are a must. All positions will be given a writing exam.
