Dept Marketing Statement The Arts Division offers technical training, aesthetic development, and historical, theoretical, and critical studies in art, history of art and visual culture, dance design/technology, drama, film and digital media, digital arts and new media, games and playable media, and music to all undergraduates as well as to undergraduate majors and graduate students. The division is comprised of departments and programs of study, organized research units, instructional and research programs to attract and retain a diverse population of students, and a variety of support programs and facilities.
Isaac Julien, Distinguished Professor of the Arts, leads the IJ Lab together with Arts Professor Mark Nash. The Lab at Santa Cruz is designed as a mirror for the London studio, a place from which moving image and photographic works are produced. One of the aims of the Arts Division at UC Santa Cruz is to focus on the artist as cultural entrepreneur, an artist who necessarily engages with the art world and art industry to further their own practice, both as a way of developing their own aesthetic language as well as pursuing both commercial and cultural imperatives.
Mark Nash, Professor of the Arts, is an established critic and curator. He edited the British film theory magazine Screen before embarking on film and art installation projects with Isaac Julien, and curating important international exhibitions such as Documenta 11 in 2002.
Involves oversight and coordination of research grant programs, including program development, planning and evaluation, peer review and applicant relations, grant application and award management, and synthesis and dissemination of research findings.
Fulfills primary responsibility for a specific area of research within a broader research grant program initiative.
The Project Director for the Isaac Julien Lab provides executive-level strategic support for research priorities including establishing goals, milestones, and metrics for the implementation, tracking, and evaluation of grant funded initiatives. Maintains relationships with major partners as well as institutional stakeholders. Will serve as one of the key points of contact for the Lab's principles in their development of an ambitious agenda of research and pedagogy in the areas of curating, archiving and exhibiting the moving image. With a primary role as the liaison to external project partners including the Kramlich Collection, Pamela Joyner, the Museum of the African Diaspora, San Jose Museum of Art, Performa, ArtPace San Antonio and others, the incumbent provides oversight of activities that range from cultivating performance and curatorial opportunities to managing cinema-style screenings and large-scale conference and educational symposia.
Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule Salary Information: $57,300 - $99,900. Salary proportionate to percent time worked. Salary commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience.
