Health and Wellness is hiring a Health and Wellness Communications Specialist to clearly, expertly and fully communicate its mission, services, and existing and evolving resources, particularly in the setting of the COVID-19 pandemic. Reporting to the Associate Director and in liaison with the Director of BWell Health Promotion, this position will serve as the central bi-directional point of contact for COVID-19 and other critical health communication for Health and Wellness. Major areas of responsibility for this position include:
Developing a Health and Wellness Strategic Communications Plan and its implementation;
Digital communications and social media engagement;
Stakeholder data and resource material management and;
Serving as leadership liaison
The Health and Wellness Communications Specialist will, in consultation with the Associate Director, be responsible for developing and implementing a Health and Wellness strategic Communications Plan. The plan will include a robust set of health and wellness communication strategies and tactics that will actively engage a diverse audience of students, staff, faculty, and parents. The Specialist will apply communications theories and models in the development of inclusive Health and Wellness communications campaigns and collaborate fully with the Office of University Communications and other campus partners to support a wide range of Health and Wellness communication reflecting Brown principles of inclusion, equity, and accessibility. The Health and Wellness Communications Specialist will develop, coordinate, and organize engaging website copy that reflects a unified Health and Wellness presence. Developing a consistent content strategy will be important in the successful relaunch of all Health and Wellness department websites. The Specialist will also be responsible for assessing, developing, and implementing an effective strategy for social media engagement The Health and Wellness Communications Specialist will manage constituent feedback data as well as manage resource material for the Health and Wellness area. By developingÂ new and promoting existing resource material related to Health and Wellness care, support, and services, the Specialist will be in position to understand and select appropriate communication channels and messages to help achieve positive health outcomes. The Health and Wellness Communications Specialist will also liaise with Health and Wellness and Campus Life leadership by meeting regularly to determine and assess communication needs.
This is a full time exempt, one-year fixed term position with the possibility of extension based upon funding. All candidates must include a cover letter with their resume.
Education and Experience
Bachelorâ™s degree in public health, health communication, journalism, social sciences or equivalent
5+ years of experience with communications, marketing, digital media or the equivalent
Experience with health communications strongly preferred
Success working in a diverse, international, educational, public health or healthcare setting is highly desirable
Excellent verbal, written, and organizational skills with an ability to summarize public health data and information
Demonstrated ability to produce high quality work products with attention to detail
Demonstrated work experience/ portfolio project that includes health communication or initiative addressing health issues impacting diverse or vulnerable populations
Proven ability to take initiative and adhere to timelines
Skill in project management techniques that may be used to plan and implement health communication and dissemination strategies
Expert knowledge in the development and management of social media communication
Proven track record as a creative thinker with an ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple activities
Demonstrated ability and willingness to work in and support a diverse and inclusive environment
Experience interpreting public health, population health, and/or social science information and using evidence-based communications to impact behavior change in diverse populations
Significant experience with Microsoft Office, multiple media platforms including web and social media communications, print publications, web-based content management systems, and PowerPoint
Experience with graphic design is a plusÂ
