Acts as the lead for specific areas of analysis related to the design, implementation, support/maintenance, and enhancement of NU's enterprise, vendor and in-house developed applications. Formulates and defines systems scope and objectives based on both user needs and a thorough understanding of business systems and industry requirements. Devises or modifies procedures to solve complex problems.
Instructs, directs, supports, and provides technical guidance to other business systems analysts, contractors, and consultants, as necessary.
This individual works directly on Human Resources systems, which include, but are not limited to, Northwestern University’s cloud learning/performance management system for faculty and staff and the Human Capital Management system with modules such as Core HR, Benefits, Recruiting, Payroll & Timekeeping, Self-Service, Reports, and Web Services.
The Systems Analyst Lead will collaborate with the Office of Human Resources, NUIT teams, the University community and assigned committees to secure business requirements for complex IT projects. This individual will conduct needs assessments, build business requirements & project plans, develop and implement testing for the implementation of assigned projects, enhancements, and production support tickets. Responsibilities will include working with the key HR functional users and the University community in the collection, analysis, and identification of project needs.
This position will mentor and lead a team of system analysts/senior system analysts who will be running multiple projects throughout the year and working on production support issues. The Systems Analyst Lead will evaluate, write and deliver annual performance reviews of their staff; including quarterly check-ins. The Systems Analyst Lead will also be responsible for onboarding any new employees and cross training existing employees where necessary.
The Systems Analyst Lead will have experience running large IT projects, excellent customer service skills, strong project management skills, and strong leadership skills. The candidate will have excellent oral and written communication skills, and be able to interact with other key players on implementation teams, and be engaged with the HR business needs.
Specific Responsibilities: Strategic Planning
Manages and influences school, department, and core office representatives to ensure that user requirements are met, all gaps are documented, and all deliverables approved (adhering to approved methodology and documentation standards).
Leads a team ensuring the proper installation, configuration, and functioning of enterprise systems. Also manages knowledge transfer of contractors to staff at project completion.
Contributes to defining methodology and documentation standards, and periodically reviewing them to integrate appropriate industry practices.
Represents organizational area in regards to advisory groups, planning committees, and similar standing work groups whose purpose is to develop requirements related to the implementation of enterprise business systems.
Reviews and verifies that documentation of training materials, process, procedures and system/application is accurate.
Identifies implementation dependencies and constraints; ensures these are addressed.
Leads project resources to ensure that tasks are completed on schedule and that issues, risks and variances are mitigated in a timely manner.
Leads test script execution both internally and cross functionally between systems and departments; performs detailed testing to ensure that the implemented software functions correctly.
Manages iterative feedback processes among users, developers, and analysts to ensure software functionality aligns with requirements. Granted authority to make decisions based on knowledge of interdependency between systems and business processes.
Leads technical, reporting and application resources to analyze and resolve production issues in a timely manner.
Solicits feedback from users on application performance and escalates critical performance issues with technical resources and management. Granted authority to make decisions on solution approach based on in-depth system knowledge and best practices.
Leads work direction and/or staff such as team members, subordinates, contractors, vendors, students, etc.
Recommends staff hires/terminations. Writes position descriptions; leads recruiting process.
Coaches and mentors staff.
Manages complex projects ensuring timelines, deliverables and expectations are met.

Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or equivalent or 2 years equivalent experience.
6 years functional/business/system analysis or equivalent experience required.

Saba Cloud Learning Management and Performance Management System, or similar Cloud system experience
