Department/College Description THE DEPARTMENT: The School of Design is comprised of five undergraduate programs, three graduate programs, and the Vignelli Center for Design Studies. The undergraduate programs include 3D Digital Design, Graphic Design, Industrial Design, Interior Design, and New Media Design. The graduate programs are Visual Communication Design, Industrial Design, and Integrative Design. Approximately 750 undergraduate and 90 graduate students are enrolled in the School of Design. Detailed Job Description The School of Design in the College of Art and Design at the Rochester Institute of Technology invites applicants to apply for a non-tenure track Lecturer position in the Interior Design program. Expectations include teaching five undergraduate classes per year in Interior Design, and three classes per year in another area of the School of Design; participating in innovative teaching and curriculum development; rendering service to the school, college, university, and/or community; career advising and mentoring undergraduate students; and participating in professional organizations important to the field of interior design.
RIT's undergraduate Interior Design B.F.A. degree is a multi-faceted program of study offering a comprehensive exploration of the architectural interior. Our curriculum synthesizes the theoretical constructs of design history with the technical requirements of space planning, building structure, sustainable systems, and design process to create inspiring, purposeful interior environments.
The program, accredited by the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA), features dedicated studio and lecture spaces, a physical and digital materials library and direct access to workshops, state of the art computer, VR and 3D printing labs. The world-renowned Vignelli Center for Design Studies archives serves as an invaluable resource for understanding the process and product of design by the world's most acclaimed designers.
Our experienced, professionally certified faculty impart technical design skills in a studio culture that promotes one on one discussions, teamwork and collaboration. Required Minimum Qualifications
MFA, MA or MS in Interior Design, Environmental Design, or an M. Arch, MS Architecture, MS or MA in Interior Architecture or related degree.
Minimum three years of fulltime professional experience in interior design, architecture, industrial design, facilities and construction management or a related field.
Minimum two years teaching experience at the associates and/or baccalaureate level beyond a teaching assistantship.
Experience designing interior spaces with applicable codes and material applications.
Architectural drawing and computer proficiency with interior design and related software(s).
Demonstrated knowledge of one or more of the following: design theory, history, methodology, technology, and practices.
Ability to contribute in meaningful ways to the colleges continuing commitment to cultural diversity, pluralism, and individual differences.
