This position is responsible for advising senior leadership in work planning and organizational development; quarterly reports, responding to major requests for employment and salary actions for senior level employees; data mining and assessment for various major reports; and working with the employee relations and HRIS team to resolve non-standard issues. The depth of knowledge required to perform these additional duties is significantly more, the consequence of error higher, and the analytical requirements greater. Considerable detail must be given to understand each request to determine the best course of action and complete assignments with accuracy and in a timely manner in spite of the increased workload;
The Position Management Specialist will be responsible for providing support in the area of position management, classification and compensation by assisting users of the PeopleAdmin position management module; maintaining user types and workflows; creating and maintaining university organizational charts; tracking and reporting actions. Applies knowledge of position requirements, role descriptions and competency standards. Maintains compliance with regulations established by University of North Carolina General Administration (UNC-GA) and the North Carolina Office of State Human Resources (OSHR), to guide managers in restructuring existing positions and establishing new positions to most effectively meet the changing business needs of the University.

Bachelor’s degree; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Knowledge of the concepts and principles underlying position classification and compensation systems. Preference would be classification and compensation experience in higher education and particularly the University of North Carolina System, experience with Banner and PeopleAdmin. Working knowledge of compensation analysis; organizational design and development; trends and best practices in employment, recruitment, classification and compensation; Fair Labor Standards Act, Equal Employment Opportunity and other pertinent laws. General knowledge of: principles, problems, and methods of Human Resources Administration including organization, personnel, and fiscal management; techniques used for employee recruitment, selection, training, supervision, performance management, engagement and development; statistical and research methods.
Skills: Project management, conflict resolution, effective written and verbal communication, and interpersonal skills. Adaptability to changes in the work environment, managing competing demands and dealing with frequent change, delays or unexpected events. Intermediate to advanced level experience using a Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS) including query systems. Computer proficiency (Microsoft Office programs including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook. Advanced knowledge and skill using Excel as an analytical tool.
