Join us at Carnegie Mellon's HCI Institute. Help us with an exciting project at the intersection of HCI and learning science. We're creating a system that detects in-classroom behaviors, provides feedback on teaching, and scaffolds teachers in selecting and using new teaching techniques. This is a large-scale, multi-institution effort. It involves developing and integrating computer vision and audio sensors to collect rich data streams from classrooms; creating meaningfully data visualizations that support teachers in learning about their own practice; and operationalizing learning theory and theory on changes in beliefs through the creation of teacher training and reflection materials. We are looking for applicants with expertise and enthusiasm for managing this project across all involved teams.
The Project Manager position is an internally-focused role, managing the project team's operational workflow process. The Project Manager is responsible for the execution of the project life cycle activities to ensure goals are met. This includes detailed project planning and execution, reporting, meeting coordination, project status communication, identifying risks and keeping resources and efforts focused on the priorities and staying on-track. The Project Manager ensures integration, collaboration, quality and accountability across the team. A successful Project Manager is also solutions-driven, a facilitator and a team builder. Project Managers develop and grow effective, collaborative partnerships, provide leadership, cross-functional solutions, information and guidance.
Core responsibilities will include:
* Owns the project workflow from inception to completion, manages the resources for deliverables and provides end-to-end project management throughout the entire project life cycle. * Scopes project requirements, prepares and manages timelines. * Develops detailed project plans based on information provided at project onset and monitors progress including but not limited to workflow, goal setting, hours reports and tracking. * Manages a detailed and organized history of each project. * Manages work internally, schedules all internal meetings, obtains internal approvals such as IRB. * Maintains constant communication between all team members and partners on an assigned project regarding status, progress as well as ensuring the team has what they need to complete a task and is clear on deliverables. * Highlights potential risks, raises flags as issues arise and acts proactively to resolve issues. * Engages in contingency planning and recommends solutions. * Ensures cross-department integration, fosters collaboration and enforces adherence to the defined workflow and quality control process. * Ability to QA projects based on requirements and functionality knowledge. * Collaborates with learning science and sensor teams on design and implementation of projects while managing team workloads through tracking pipeline work and handling conflict resolutions. * Keeps project management tools updated to always reference accurate project information and deadlines. * Holds SCRUM meetings as needed to ensure all members are aligned with delegated tasks. * Ability to communicate technical projects and situations in a clear and concise manner to internal teammates and collaborators alike. Explains scopes and technology to collaborators. * Schedules and conducts Post-Mortem meetings as needed. * Keeps team aware of progress on each project and raises any concerns as quickly as possible. Qualifications include (but are not limited to): * B.S./B.A. in a Psychology, Education, or Technical discipline, and/or a related field. M.S. a plus. * 1-3 years of project management experience preferred * Fast learner who easily adapts. * Excellent written and verbal communicator, optimistic outlook, positive attitude, outgoing personality, proactive worker. * Ability to speak comfortably to current and potential collaborators. * Experience managing employees, students, and others in a project team setting. * Experience writing, tracking and communicating detailed project plans, specifications and other project documentation. * Exemplary organizational and multitasking abilities. Deadline and detail-oriented. * The ability to prioritize while working on multiple assignments under deadline pressures is crucial. * Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Slack and Google Drive. * Technical background in current web technologies desirable.
