Instructional Designer - College of Physical Activity & Sport Sciences 14968
The College of Physical Activity and Sports Sciences (CPASS) at West Virginia University is seeking applications for an Instructional Designer. This individual will work collaboratively with faculty and staff of the College of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences and the department of Teaching and Learning Commons iDesign unit in the production of online courses, electronic instructional materials for face-to-face and blended courses, as well as the production of other supplemental materials.
This role requires a positive, energetic individual with strong organization and interpersonal skills, who has the ability to make independent decisions. This role requires an individual with excellent leadership skills that can lead projects, as well as delegate tasks to individuals on the team.
In order to be successful in this position the ideal candidate will:
Lead, coordinate or actively participate on teams assigned to iDesign projects in the design, development and deployment of instructional materials.
Plan and produce designs for instructional materials.
Demonstrate knowledge of several of the following: project management, HTML, SCORM, Adobe Creative Suite, Camtasia, Adobe Captivate, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premiere, Adobe Audition, Articulate Studio, Articulate Storyline, Articulate 360.
Demonstrate expertise in one or more of the following: project management, HTML, SCORM, Adobe Creative Suite, Camtasia, Adobe Captivate, Adobe Photoshop, Articulate Studio, Articulate Storyline, Articulate 360.
Assist in assessing the instructional effectiveness of course materials that are produced.
Provide methods for learning needs analysis to ensure appropriateness of online instructional materials.
Communicate frequently and effectively with various project collaborators to ensure project goals and objectives are being fulfilled
Provide consultation to University faculty in the application of instructional design and the use of instructional technology tools in the delivery of instruction.
Provide advice and counsel to CPASS in collaboration with TLC and iDesign management and staff on the strategic, tactical and operational issues associated with the development of instructional technology at the University
Deploy instructional materials using HTML/CSS as a design tool (as well as other appropriate technologies including those listed above).
Provide instructional design and information architecture services and expertise.
Ensure the instructional integrity of course development projects through systematic design and clear writing of instructional analyses, narratives and storyboards.
Design, develop and teach faculty development workshops and other forms of professional development in areas of instructional design and in the use of specific instructional technology tools.
Assist in the development, distribution and enforcement of instructional technology policies and procedures.
Participate in the testing and deployment of Blackboard upgrades/hotfixes, eLearning tools, etc.
Provide periodic formal/informal reports on course development projects.
A master's degree in a related field is required.
At least three (3) years of experience in web-based instructional material design, development and deployment.
At least one (1) year of experience in the following areas;
Use of course management tools (preferably Blackboard)
Leading instructional material development tasks
Matching eLearning technologies to instructional goals
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Excellent organizational skills.

Ability to work collaboratively within an academic community.
Ability to interpret client needs and produce instructional materials.
Ability to manage and meet deadlines.
Basic knowledge of streaming audio and video, compression methods, file types, and formats.
Familiarity with graphic design elements appropriate for on-line instruction.
Familiarity with usability and accessibility (including Section 508).
Knowledge of how various E-learning technologies may facilitate instructional goals.
