UW Medicine has an outstanding opportunity for a PRE-ANALYTICAL PROCESSING MANAGER. The person in this role directs and manages a team of 35+ employees in a 24/7 environment. This includes the interviewing, selection, and training as well as performance management and progressive corrective action. The main work effort is to orchestrate people, systems and processes to ensure clinical specimens from patients are received and prepared using standardized processes emphasizing methods that ensure accuracy and prevent pre-analytical error.
The person in this role:
Mentors and coaches the staff to ensure a comprehensive UW Medicine compliant approach to human resource management and adherence to the Service Culture Guidelines.
Works with staff across all three shifts to maintain and improve staffing models, manage human and physical resources and ensure that employees follow applicable state, University, and other regulatory requirements.
Utilizes process improvement tools to improve work process quality.
Reporting to the Director of Clinical Operations, maintains beneficial interactions with other Laboratory Medicine managers, faculty and administration as well as the Department Human Resource Team and UW Medicine Human Resource professionals. A paramount effort is the maintenance of a harmonious team-oriented work environment with the goal of retaining ‘Patient Are First’ oriented employees.
Manages operations for the PPM section, interacting in a professional manner to facilitate the pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic phases of laboratory testing.
Ensures that the manual and all procedures are kept up to date and utilized by all staff.
Develop projects aimed at improving operations and responds to administrative directives from the Medical Centers.
Collaborates with the technical Health Services Managers and Clinical Supervisors to ensure that division is responding to Department needs and delivering superior service.
Develops projects with the Laboratory Medicine Information Technology team to ensure timely completion of all initiatives.
Integrates new or revised procedures into the workplace.
Maintains working knowledge of the Laboratory Information System (LIS)/Sunquest, Customer Relationship Management system (hc1.com), Electronic Medical Record (EPIC, Cerner/ORCA), Billing system (Xifin), Genetics, and Hematopathology reporting system (Atlas).
Works closely with the Managers of Client Services and Courier Services to coordinate the creation and implementation of policies and procedures.
Contributes to overall divisional technical and administrative management in coordination with the Client Services Manager, Courier Services Manager, SPS Managers, and Remote Services Manager.
Ensures compliance with all federal and state regulations as well as accrediting requirements that impact laboratory operations.
Serves, when possible, on a variety of Laboratory Medicine and School of Medicine committees devoted to quality improvement and logistics.
Serves as a liaison for the clinical laboratories to other healthcare personnel.
Interview, hire, and orient new leadership staff to maintain qualified 24-hour workforce coverage.
Ensure training, continual education and in-service education for leadership staff.
Hold staff accountable for ensuring training, continual education, and in-service education for staff.
Evaluate performance and deliver timely performance evaluations; provide fair and immediate feedback regarding job performance for staff.

Requirements: A Bachelor’s degree in a related field and or equivalent combination of education and experience, AND five or more years of experience supervising a larger clinical laboratory pre-analytical operation or a sizable healthcare workforce which may include laboratory operations.
