The Winchendon School seeks innovative and ambitious educators for our satellite campus, which opened in Brooklyn, New York in September 2018. Winchendon’s academic program intentionally builds essential academic and behavioral skills, while also creating a supportive space for students to direct their own education toward internships, independent projects, and initiatives that they are excited about, thus driving their learning beyond the classroom and into the world. For all of our students, we strive to assist in the growth of character traits and life skills essential for a successful future: initiative, creativity, grit, empathy, cooperation, independence. Ours is a college preparatory school with the mission to support students who have not been as successful in more traditional schools, and so our faculty must be relentlessly empathetic, creative, and flexible as we build skills and confidence among students who are largely underserved in other programs.
Since the satellite campus is still a startup, faculty are called upon to teach a range of subjects and participate in multiple functions of the school. Accordingly, the ideal candidate for this position will be supremely versatile and have a strong background in both the teaching of mathematics and sciences across the curriculum. Additionally, a qualified teacher will be a dedicated student of teaching methods and student-centered engagement, incorporate contextualized project and field-based learning opportunities into their classrooms, emphasize self-reflection as an assessment strategy and vehicle to encourage growth, and value a constructivist approach to learning. Above all, we employ teachers who love and are loved by their students.
If interested in this opportunity, please email Jared Mage, our Dean of Teaching and Learning, at [email protected], and CC Head of School Sean Duncan at [email protected]. Please include an attached cover letter highlighting your fit for the position and our school, resume, and three references.
