The Dalton School, a progressive K-12 gender-inclusive school in Manhattan’s Upper East Side, is consistently recognized as one of the preeminent independent day schools in the nation. The Dalton School seeks a part-time (.6) Middle School upper strings teacher (violin/viola) to join its Music Department for the 2020-2021 school year. This is a one-year appointment, with the possibility of extension beyond the upcoming school year.
Classroom responsibilities include teaching 4th grade general music, and 5th and 6th grade ensemble-oriented group violin classes. Candidates should possess a high performance level on classical violin and/or viola, and have experience teaching upper strings technique and ensemble skills in a variety of settings, including comfort in a digital teaching environment. An additional familiarity with folk, popular and/or non-Western string traditions, composition pedagogy, or other areas of interest is strongly encouraged.
Bachelor’s degree in music or music education is required; Master’s degree is preferred

Enthusiastic about working collaboratively with other faculty members to design curricula that addresses the whole child
