Rutgers University-Newark, an urban public research university and anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise, is seeking an Instructional Design and Technology Specialist for Rutgers University–Newark which reports to the Director of Academic Technology Services. The Instructional Design and Technology Specialist promotes the use of instructional technology-enhanced learning in both existing and new programs online, on-campus, and hybrid/blended courses through seminars, newsletters, websites, blogging, live/recorded demonstrations, webinars and personal instruction. With specialized knowledge of the principles, theories, and concepts of pedagogy and the use and delivery of instructional technology and distance learning applications in complex environments for a diverse audience. The position serves as the primary point of contact for all technology-enhanced training for faculty and instructors who are delivering technology-enhanced curricula by providing them with technical and pedagogical support. Activities include the development, marketing and delivery of programs to communicate, raise awareness and ultimately adopt technology to improve teaching and learning at the university. The position works with the Director of Academic Technology Services on short- and long-term strategic planning for the integration of instructional technology. Among the key duties of this position are the following: -Serves as a primary point of contact for all technology-enhanced training for faculty and instructors who are delivering technology-enhanced curricula by providing them with technical and pedagogical support. -Researches and reviews data to remain current on strategies and trends in learning technology and to analyze current activity within the campus. -Supports the development, marketing and delivery of programs to communicate, raise awareness and ultimately adopt technology to improve teaching and learning at the University. -Serves on and/or supports various university committees. -May supervise lower level technical staff and performs related duties as required. Minimum Education and Experience:
-Requires a bachelor's degree in instructional design, instructional technology, computer science, communications, education, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. -Requires knowledge of instructional and learning theories and their application, and at least two years of related training and/or technical experience including, at least some experience as a classroom or online instructor.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
-Requires working knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of designing, developing, delivering, and evaluating educational programs, training techniques, current instructional, information, and communication technologies, both hardware and software. -Must have the ability to facilitate the use of and present instructional materials, assess technology and software programs for instructional and other purposes. -Strong conceptual, planning and project management skills. -Requires communication, and organizational skills and the ability to be flexible and patient with faculty and staff with diverse backgrounds and perspectives on the use of technology in a variety of learning environments.
Instructional design degree or certificate is preferred.
