The Center for Innovation in Higher Education in the College of Education (CIHE) at the University of South Carolina (USC) and Night Kitchen Interactive (NK) are seeking a historian/interpretative writer to draft a script about Reconstruction era history for an educational website. The project consultants and script advisors comprise some of the nation’s foremost scholars of Reconstruction history, led by Eric Foner.
The Free and Equal Project website will be part of a National Endowment for the Humanities funded, multifaceted, multi-phased project. The project explores the significance of sites in Beaufort, South Carolina that collectively constitute the Reconstruction Era National Historical Park, established by President Barack Obama in January 2017 as a United States National Historical Park. The first phase includes an immersive mobile app tour and a website, expected to promote the mobile app and extend the local content with the national themes and history of Reconstruction.
Scope of Engagement
The selected scriptwriter will act as both a subject matter expert in Reconstruction History and primary writer to develop scripts for ~15 pages of online content. The writer will compose a detailed content outline, a draft and final script. Each of these deliverables will undergo a round of review and revision. The scripting process will be informed by the scripting of the mobile app, to be completed by Walking Cinema, the mobile app production partner. NK will manage the selected writer and design and develop the website. USC will act as project producer.
