Full Time - Mid-Level (Senior Producer, Reporter, Editor)
Here at ICIJ, we’ve shown that we can take vast troves of data and, with the help of huge global teams of journalists, *write* compelling, important longform stories. But we want to get better at *telling* those stories, and finding audiences ready to consume them.
Our small but growing team of digital content specialists is focused on helping ICIJ’s groundbreaking reporting reach as many people as possible. We’re an editorial team (i.e. we’re all journalists), passionate about storytelling and about creating impactful journalism. We have incredibly important content to work with, and, most importantly, we have the space and support to experiment with innovative (even crazy) storytelling techniques.
On our radar for 2020 and beyond: more video content, more investment in good (engaging, useful, beautiful) visual design, forays into audio storytelling, and increased engagement with audiences and communities. And we want your help!
We’re looking for a journalist:
with excellent news judgment and robust newsroom experience, preferably in audience-focused digital production (working on a news organization’s website and/or social media team)
who is obsessed with storytelling, and understands how content is created (we’d like to see a solid portfolio of pieces, please!) and distributed
who is passionate about engaging with audiences and understands the importance of creating content that is tailored for specific audiences
who is an excellent communicator and team-player, who will build close relationships with reporters, analysts, developers and managers to create harmony - both in our processes, and in our creative output.
...who can help us do at least a few of the following:
manage our social media channels, including creating content, developing style and voice, and planning and strategizing for social success
build and execute an audience strategy that can promote and guide our reporting, content production and distribution
manage digital projects, including content creation based on ICIJ’s global investigations
create original content or commission, edit and produce content that can be published across ICIJ’s digital platforms
work with our global network of media partners – including major international news outlets – to create content that will help them tell the world’s most important stories to the world’s biggest potential audience.
The specifics (your skills and experience):
Minimum four years experience as a journalist, with a portfolio of published work
Demonstrated knowledge of social media platforms, tools for creating and distributing content on social media, and analyzing success/failure
Broad knowledge in the production and distribution of digital news, including familiarity with HTML and CSS, experience using a CMS to edit a website, and an understanding of SEO practices
Familiarity with multimedia production – images, audio/video editing, understanding of basic design principles
Strong writing and copy-editing skills, including familiarity with AP style
This position will be based in ICIJ’s Washington, D.C. office. Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S.
ICIJ is an equal opportunity employer and is committed to hiring employees from diverse backgrounds with excellent journalism skills. People of color, women, LGBTQ, and people with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply.
To apply, please email a short cover letter, your resume and samples of your work to ICIJ’s online editor Hamish Boland-Rudder ([email protected]) by June 15, 2020.
