You will lead the U.S. Chronic Care organization to support government policies and payer environments that enable sustainable business growth and will deploy advocacy and lobbying initiatives towards stakeholders involved in federal, state and key payer policies that optimize end users' access to Coloplast offerings. You will also build relationships within federal and state government, and support Coloplast at key industry association and stakeholder coalition meetings. As part of the Market Access team, you will report to the Vice President of U.S. Market Access and have a dotted reporting line to the Head of Global Government Affairs & Patient Advocacy at Coloplast headquarters in Denmark.
Major Areas of Accountability
Strategic planning and execution
Identify and monitor key issues, opportunities and threats among federal, state and key payer policies, with focus on coverage and payment for DMEPOS products
Develop measurable action plans that support the company’s agenda and interests
Provide expertise during business planning process on government policies and related trends
Create a tools box for the engagements related to government and public affairs, patient forums / organizations, patient advocacy groups, and effectively deploy it in commercial setting
Cultivate and leverage an expansive network of relationships within government agencies and stakeholder organizations (e.g., elected/appointed officials, policymakers, professional societies, patient organizations, policy/regulatory consultants, lobbyists, relevant industry associations)
Represent Coloplast’s views in healthcare and Coloplast interests and agendas in federal and state government, external groups and forums and at issue and stakeholder events
Organize, track and administer employee interaction with federal and state elected and appointed officials
Draw up public affairs agendas and action plans; carry out analyses of stakeholders and the media landscape
Develop US and implement global campaign initiatives based on the Coloplast growth agendas
Mobilize relevant interest groups (e.g., patient organizations, advocacy and support groups, professional societies, industry associations, coalition groups) that positively influence government and payer organizations
Partner with internal Coloplast teams and/or external media agencies and develop compelling campaigns
Keep track of campaign outcomes and provide recommendations on next steps
Advise senior management on public policy issues and support management with corresponding plan of actions and related public facing narratives
Serve on the Global Government Affairs team to partner and coordinate execution of global initiatives
Drive internal alignment process to ensure that the government affairs function is tightly connected to Coloplast Chronic Care business objectives
Master’s degree in communications, business, language and culture or political science accredited institution in related field.
A minimum of 10 years of successful government, government affairs, policy or public affairs roles
Knowledge of policymaking and Medicare rule making processes; ability to discern and analyze political and economic trends that drive policies relevant to reimbursement and digital health
Knowledge of healthcare process, finance and medical device / health industry policy issues
Competencies in communications (storytelling, writing, strategic communications, sound knowledge of new media) and politics (stakeholders, political analysis, understanding policy making and dynamics)
Ability to form strategic relationships with key personnel in government / stakeholder groups
Experience in media handling and media agenda setting
Self-motivated and capable of managing multiple projects with a drive for results
Excellent written, verbal, presentation and spokesperson skills with the ability to express complex information and processes in a clear, concise and compelling manner
Complex stakeholder and project management skills
Travel as needed to support key initiatives
Previous experience in government affairs, patient advocacy, patient organizations, public affairs, regulatory affairs, etc. in the medical device industry
Experience in communicating the impact IPPS, OPPS, DMEPOS Medicare rules and other regulations
Experience in driving policies relevant to innovation in medical technology, digital health and remote healthcare delivery, commoditization of DMEPOS products, Competitive Bidding, policies related to value-based care, price transparency and managed care expansion reforms
