The Student-Athlete Support Services Office (SASSO) Academic Support Intern position in the Office of Student Academic Success (OSAS) will assist academic counselors, learning specialists and student-athlete engagement staff in monitoring and supporting a select group of Ohio State’s 36 varsity teams. Attends staff meetings, provides support to lead staff on all student-athlete support programs and opportunities. The primary responsibilities of this position will be to assist student-athletes on time management, student advocacy, decision making, tutorial support, organizational strategies, and study skill enhancement. The position will also have the opportunity to mentor incoming student-athletes that are transitioning to the Ohio State University. The Academic Support Intern will work closely with our Academic Counseling and Instructional Support and Student-Athlete Engagement Staffs to provide superior support to our student-athlete population. This position may be tasked with supporting any of the three areas of SASSO based on the needs of the program and skill set. Additional duties may include but are not limited to: creating and monitoring a class checking system, assisting with after-hours Student-Athlete Engagement programming, and providing materials for and leading team meetings. Prepares and organizes a variety of academic reports, communication materials for internal use such as student-athlete highlights, digital and marketing materials for programs. Must adhere to NCAA rules and the Family Educational Rights to Privacy Act (FERPA). Must have strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail (specifically excel worksheets) and the ability to set appropriate professional boundaries. Leverages team to work effectively with all student-athletes; collaborates with SASSO staff and campus partners to support all student-athlete development programs. Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, evenings and weekends. Ability to communicate effectively and accurately, both orally and written. The intern team will work with students to foster an environment of self-discipline, personal accountability, academic integrity, and personal wellness. A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of experience and education is required. Must have strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail (specifically excel worksheets) and the ability to set appropriate professional boundaries. Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends.
Previous experience with a track record of success working with student-athletes is preferred. Must have a desire to obtain full-time employment in student-athlete development or related profession.
Target Salary: $15.00 - $16.00 Hourly
