Essential Job Duties:
The Department of Crop and Soil Sciences in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at North Carolina State University is pleased to announce recruitment for a tenure-track Assistant Professor with formal appointments in extension (70%) and research (30%).
We seek an applied soil management specialist to provide an extension and research program on soil impacts and spatial technologies for major field crops in eastern North Carolina (coastal plain) is required. The research and extension focus of this position, located at Plymouth, will be both research station and on-farm field trials. A geospatial component to management and fertility is essential as digital tools and technologies are emerging rapidly. As cropping systems change, new spatial technologies will require applied research and extension to ensure best soil management and fertilizer recommendations for optimal yields and economic return while safeguarding water quality and soil organic matter. Additionally, salt water intrusion and storm effects on soil productivity and fertility are and will be an increasingly important part of this position. Other emerging issues such as carbon sequestration and effects of tillage systems require research and extension as carbon markets are developing and being marketed to farmers in this region

This position will join interdisciplinary teams of scientists in the Plant Sciences Building focusing in areas like plant improvement and data-driven plant science.

Requires doctor’s degree, an equivalent degree, or equivalent professional experience.
Candidate must have excellent written and communication skills with demonstrated ability to publish peer-reviewed research in internationally recognized journals.
Applied research experience.
Experience in coastal plain or tidewater research including rebuilding after storm surges and flooding.
Previous successful experience in obtaining extramural funding.
Required license or certification:
Valid NC Driver's License or the ability to obtain one within 60 days of hire.
