Manlius Pebble Hill School seeks an experienced and dynamic middle school global history teacher to join the History Department for the 2020 - 2021 school year. As the only Pre-Kindergarten – Grade 12 independent school in Central New York, MPH provides the guidance and resources for students to develop and pursue their interests in a healthy and engaging educational setting. The ideal candidate will be passionate about working with eager students and supportive families. MPH teachers aim to differentiate classroom instruction with consideration for the strengths and needs of each student.
The responsibilities of this position include working with colleagues to develop and implement an engaging curriculum that challenges students to examine historical content with a critical, conceptual lens. Candidates for this position should possess a compelling background in teaching global history, from the ancient world through the present, inclusive of contemporary global issues, and should demonstrate a strong commitment to writing instruction. Candidates should also have experience in teaching other humanities and social studies courses at both the middle and upper school level. In addition, candidates should be proficient in multiple forms of pedagogy to address diverse learning styles, including: historical research using print and digital sources, analysis of primary source documents, discussion, public speaking, and incorporating technology as a tool to enrich the learning experience. Additionally, candidates will be expected to engage in the life of the Middle School, serving as an advisor and helping with clubs and other extracurricular opportunities. A bachelor’s degree is required. Graduate studies in history or a related field and evidence of innovative teaching are strongly preferred.
