Cloud and HPC Architect (2001180) - Research Triangle Park, NC
Where the Chemistry Happens...
BASF is looking for a Cloud and HPC expert who will manage and maintain our High Performance Computing Platform in AWS and continue development of it. As a key contact of the Seeds R&D business, you will assist our science community to optimally use the personalized self-service HPC clusters.
As a cloud architect you will assist the other architects in implementing a cloud-native application design and the establishment of the hybrid cloud strategy.
You will also join the global BASF cloud expertise community to further the usage of Cloud technologies.
Formula for Success: You Will...
Responsible for the day to day (AWS) cloud operations of R&D Informatics team. Be a primary contact for both users and colleagues which you can give expert advice wrt cloud infrastructure implementations and help them forward setting up and managing their cloud infrastructure.
Advance the personal HPC clusters in the Cloud concept. Improve, secure, make it more accessible. But also fix, solve complex problems wrt cloud infrastructure and usage by our data scientist community.
Interact with the larger BASF cloud user/architecture community. Align and share design, methodologies and use cases.
Guard and balance security, performance and usability of the different cloud sub-platforms

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent
At least 3 years of cloud management experience, preferably AWS cloud.
At least 3 years of experience with CI/CD tools (GitLab, Atlassian tools, Jenkins, Nexus).
Experience with High Performance Computing (on-prem or cloud).
Experience with (AWS) cloud security.
Experience with "infrastructure as code" mechanisms using tooling like Foreman, Terraform, Puppet etc.
IT Project Management experience with Agile and scrum.
Experience with ITIL processes.
Experience working in a DevOps environment is a plus.
Familiarity with biotechnology is a plus.
In-depth knowledge of the Linux operating system, preferably Red Hat or derivatives.
In-depth knowledge of AWS cloud account methodologies, security etc.
In-depth knowledge and experience with CI/CD pipeline best practices.
In-depth knowledge of networking protocols and services (TCP/IP, DNS, NTP, LDAP, DHCP...).
Good coding skills with Python, Perl, Bash or equivalent.
Good understanding of High Performance Computing concepts.
Good understanding of common web middleware technology (Apache, NginX, Tomcat, JBoss) is a plus.
Good understanding of common database technologies (MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB) is a plus.
Good analytical thinking/problem solving skills.
Ability to communicate well with expert colleagues, key users, developers, and scientific researchers.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Familiarity with "DevSecOps" concept and ability to apply its methodology into cloud design.
Ability to work in a multicultural environment with global teams
Member of the global team to support users in the US and Europe
Travel may be required (US or International)
