Reporting directly to the Vice Provost and Associate Chancellor (VPAC) and acting for the VPAC in her absence, the Chief of Staff (COS) is a confidential member of the VPAC's senior leadership team in a senior management position providing counsel and principal management support, supporting the VPAC by leading and coordinating cross-cutting organizational initiatives, resource allocation, and coordination within Global Affairs (GA), between GA and the Offices of the Chancellor and Provost, with campus and UC leaders, and external constituents. Advises and provides analytical support and leadership on a variety of projects of importance to the VPAC, many of which contain a high degree of confidentiality or privileged information requiring tact, sensitivity, independent judgment, diplomacy, discretion, and flexibility. Works with the Associate Vice Provost (AVP) for Academic Programs (AVP-AP), the AVP for Global Education and Services Global Affairs (AVP-GES), and the AVP for Global Education for All (AVP-GE4A) to provide counsel and principal management support to the VPAC, primarily at the intersection of GA initiatives and campus HR and administrative operations. Responsible for providing broad oversight of the administration of GA, its units and programs through direct supervision of divisional communications, program analysis, and administrative functions, including financial, business operations, contracts and grants management, physical resources management, event management, and travel security. Serves as Global Affairs' chief HR officer. Through engagement with the AVP-AP, AVP-GE4A, and AVP-GES provides core staff supervision, supports strategic planning process and its implementation, and the implementation of new cross-organizational programs.

Master's degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a higher education setting including knowledge and understanding of international education, and current world issues.
5+ years of related high-level administrative experience or an equivalent experience, in a higher education setting including knowledge and understanding of international education, and current world issues.
Experience providing counsel and management support to a high-level executive, overseeing commitments, and ensuring priorities are strategically managed in a dynamic environment.
Experience applying sound judgment and political acumen to attentively discern and reflect perspectives, as appropriate, in advice given and in communications prepared and in navigating sensitive circumstances involving all organizational levels and confidential information.
Experience using initiative and creativity to manage programs and processes including the development of methods to evaluate progress and to effect and implement change. Demonstrated leadership and the ability to influence outcomes through collaboration and partnership.
Experience in management, supervisory and team leadership including review, analysis, and approval of compensation proposals and exceptions as well as motivating, training and assigning/prioritizing workload among highly trained and professional staff members. Supervisory experience and skills to recruit, train, evaluate, coach, mentor and motivate staff.
Interpersonal and communication skills to establish and maintain professional, collaborative working relationships with senior administrators and a diverse range of campus constituents at all levels.
Project management experience overseeing and developing from conception to fruition collaborative, high impact and complex projects with multiple stakeholders.
A minimum of five years of high-level administrative experience.
Experience using broad perspectives and strategic thinking to balance policy and practice.
Experience using initiative, problem diagnosis and proactive problem solving skills to develop and apply creative innovative approaches to problem resolution.
Experience working with and making presentations to high-level administrators facilitating group discussion in a research university.
Demonstrated ability to apply strategic planning principles; ability to design and facilitate dynamic organizational change to meet the evolving needs of the campus.
Experience achieving goals through promoting collaboration, team building and working cooperatively with peers, employees, faculty, and advisory groups of campus constituents at the campus-wide and system-wide levels.
Work at computer for extended periods of time.
