This Continuing Education Specialist position is an integral part of the professional development education and training system for public child welfare employees, foster and relative caregivers, and their community partners. This education and training system is a partnership between the University of Washington — School of Social Work, Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF), Eastern Washington University — School of Social Work, University of Washington in Tacoma —Social Work Program, and the University of Washington — School of Social Work — Partners for Our Children. This position coordinates and works closely with the Alliance partners and works within the partnership to accomplish its vision, values, and guiding principles. The success of the partnership is realized by utilizing effective working relationships with all partners.
This position works to integrate differences in individual, group, and office cultures; responds to questions and feedback; works cooperatively with peers and other managers to achieve organizational goals; conceives, plans, coordinates, and oversees projects; writes and directs the preparation of clear and effective reports and other documents.
This position helps to ensure that the Partnership benefits from the expertise and resources from the University of Washington in the areas of: Online trainings via eLearnings and webinars; and human interfaces that require design expertise; Learning science and curriculum design that is required to advance the practice and effectiveness of training for social workers and caregivers.
The Continuing Education Specialist 4 – Online Instructional Designer will develop instructional in-person and computer-based teaching methods, for live webinars, simulations, gaming and/or eLearnings for child welfare professionals and child welfare caregivers. This position will need to be able to translate the complex learning needs of internal and external customers into web-based solutions that are understandable and useful to a variety of audiences.
This position represents the partnership and University of Washington School of Social Work to professionals in the field of social work as well as, DCYF staff, management, and caregivers. This position works with the staff in the Alliance for Child Welfare Excellence to support relevant online training and service to DCYF employees and caregivers, and to assure a success that is beneficial to all partners as well as being beneficial to consumers of the services provided by the Alliance. The Online Instructional Designer will be one of the front line people in the development of the web-based curriculum, and will embrace and distill a magnitude of content to create engaging and interactive learning programs online.
This position will have multiple areas of responsibility, in an environment of dynamic and sometimes changing priorities. The person in this position needs to respond quickly to emergent needs and work closely with the supervisor and with the rest of the team to support long-term and short-term efforts. This person will need to be able to translate the complex learning needs of internal and external customers into web-based solutions that are understandable and useful to a variety of audiences. This person must be able to learn and understand the complexities of Child Welfare, Child Welfare Training, and the technological platforms that support the Alliance. This position will be one of the front-line people in the development of the web-based curriculum, and will embrace and distill a magnitude of content to create engaging and interactive learning programs online.
Lead online course development projects – 80% •Provide expert guidance, leadership, instructional design, and project management for online projects such as leading eLearning projects or supporting webinar project Guide discussions with other staff or faculty to design courses. •Take course content provided by curriculum developers, trainers, coaches, instructors, and other experts and shape it into online offerings. •Produce accessible eLearnings or update existing eLearnings to meet 508 compliance standards, such as: creating alt text for images; ensuring content screen reader accessible; working with providers for ensuring subtitles are included; revising graphics to meet visible accessibility standards. •Support curriculum developers to revise elements in live classroom/webinar curriculum to meet accessibility standards. •Plan, shoot, edit, compress, and integrate videos; Narrate, record, and edit audio for eLearning projects. •Manage eLearning development process through iterations of the product. •Develop resource materials, online modules, online courses, and in-person training curricula.
Graphic Design – 15% •Design and produce informational charts and graphics for learning content, reports, websites, and social media. •Create custom illustrations or adapt stock images for learning content. Other Duties as Assigned - 5%
•Master's degree in education, Learning Technology or Computer Science, Curriculum Development or a related field or concentration. Equivalent number of years in experience can substitute for degree requirement. •Minimum of 5 years of experience with designing and producing online courses.
Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum requirements.
DESIRED: •Advanced skills and experience planning, designing, producing and delivering education and training in a wide variety of online formats. •Experience with developing online eLearning courses and utilizing a variety of software, video, and/or media tools. •Experience initiating and managing projects, as well as coordinating and managing project teams. •Strong customer service skills. •Excellent verbal, written, and facilitation communication skills and patience. •Critical thinker with demonstrated creative problem solving skills. •Can work independently and as a team member. •Ability to track tasks to completion and ensure that they are carried out properly. •Ability to work well among diverse population.
